Clio 172 Owners Help Please !

Suggest he looks at www.cliosport.net...
Don't know if 200bhp would be possible with just breathing mods, being a normally-aspirated engine.
Looks like I'll be inheriting the 172 as my main car when my scoob goes at the end of the year so will be looking to find some gains myself. I'd guess that a chip plus sports cat will give something, but 200bhp looks optimistic...
Cheers,
Gareth

I'd be a bit cautious about the LAD conversion, we are currently debating it over at cliosport. The saxo and 106 GTi guys don't have a lot of nice things to say about them, but I'll leave it at that!
Anyway, if you have a bit of patience, Renault, are bringing out official mods for the 172/cup, the company developing these mods are called R-Sports. The kit I believe includes, at the mo, a new ECU, exhaust and a induction kit. Some claims of 10% or there abouts from the chip alone have been muted over on the board, I dunno. The chip is said to give better pull low down and raise the rev limiter! I reckon with that lot you'd be pushing 190BHP, enough to comfortably see off a CTR!
I'd imagine a de-cat might liberate a bit more, so it may, just may be possible to get somewhere near 200BHP without getting serious!

Trust me mate decat system and filter will make minimal power if any at all. Did a rolling road day with Cliosport.net last year and there was a 172 that had been chipped, full magnex and PiperX viper induction air box (hi ya Chun) and he made the same power as me with a standard 172. All the various other cars with panel and cone filters and different kinds of exhaust systems didn’t make any more power than the standard 172’s. At the end of the day Renault have really gone to town on the 172 engine and its gona be hard to make it any better unless you are willing to spend mega buck’s on it. There have been cases where after market “performance” exhaust systems have actually made the 172 lose power.

Tim the one car you are talking about was chipped by superchips, need I say more!? The cars on the board at the mo have had the ECU's remapped to suit the mods, typical power outputs are around 185BHP!
