Small Cheap New Cars
#1
I am looking to get a small cheap runabout for going to work in as I have decided that buying a performance car for work is a bit mental, my Golf will continue to be developed but I wantr to get a new supermini as I quite fancy something easy to live with that doesent cost much to run, Looking at about six grand, have narrowed it down to

May be a bit small but motorpoint are selling 14 month old Fiat Seicento thingys with 2 years warranty left for £3500.
SX Model as well with Power Steering, central locking, CD player, Sunroof, air bag, etc.
Looks very cheap motoring if your after a run about.

My Automotive Engineering lecturer has a Clio DCi, and we have talked extensively about it. 55-60mpg, very low insurance, very good build quality, very solid feel on the road. This is his third one, as he part-exs them every 20k miles.Never had a problem

My 02 Punto sporting only cost me £6,500 it was 8 months old when I had it. It is well kitted out for a small car 15” alloys, colour coded bumpers&side skirts, aircon, electric sunroof, 6 speaker (+small subwoofer in boot) system with CD multichanger, 6 speed gearbox, and 3 rear headrests.

I'm 6'4 (although 13 stone) and have no trouble with my Mum's Seicento. There is still some headroom left (Seicento's are pretty tall cars) and i can get comfy pretty easy. The seats are kind of high up, and when you first get in it takes a bit to get used to. Main problem you could have is leg room between the seat and steering wheel.
I know Fiat's arent renowned for reliability but my Mum's has had no problems for 10k miles - if i was looking for a small car i'd definitly consider one.

Like the Yellow punto, definitely one of the better looking small cars, especially as the three door has a different front, saw one in a similar Blue which they used to do the Fiat Coupe Turbo in, Punto looks favorite at the mo.
The old Micra is a good car but I am not a middle aged woman !

I had a 5 door 02 plate Fiat Punto 1.2 8v for a week, dreadful car. Engine was very harsh and sounded crap, it was slow, didn't handle, radio in a funny position, and the interior was horrible. Plus points were brakes and v.nice headlights. I did 250 miles in it, and it used 3/4s of a tank, not bad considering I thrashed it just about everywhere, on the limiter lots

I took a hired Punto on a 600 mile round trip recently. Mostly motorway. It was quiet and pacey enough for what you'd expect and although I'm 6'3 there were no comfort problems (although the steering wheel was a bit in the 'bus driver' position).
Fuel economy was astonishing (I was running a 3.0l Capri at the time though!)
Turned on a sixpence when at slow speeds, as if it was steering on a turntable under the middle of the car.. bit odd but dead handy.. Brakes were perfectly adequate for the weight of the car, a bit too sudden possibly..
All in all would say good value for money..

Had no probs at all with mine. The sporting doesn’t handle like the 8v the 8v is just a mum taxi. The sporting can get a bit bumpy because the shocks are loads stiffer that the other models, no ware near as good as my 172 but it holds it own with any other of the super mini’s in its range. Got to be the best looking supermini, a bit of Italian flare for a cheap price. And I don’t think the interior looks bad at all, remember I paid £6,500 for this car.
