A mates mondeo had it's door lock popped and boot opened, laptop gone. Police said thieves where specialising on Mondeos and Vectras and loads of em had been hit this week..

anyone else heard about this, what I can't work out is how they knew there was a laptop in the boot. They left everything else and just grabbed the lappy.

Does he have any car park stickers in his car for his company car park. I heard a rumour that some peeps have figured which stickers were which, and the if you say worked for a large computer firm, there was a good chance of having something expensive in the boot.

Unfortunately this is extremely common.

My last two companies have lost a lot of laptops through this method (well into the hundreds). This occurs mainly outside Motorway service stations / Little Chefs etc - where the majority of Business and Techy types are far too lazy and leave £5k's worth of laptop in the boot. Personally, I would take it out of their salary for being particularly stupid.

My mate's Accord Type R has a keyed lock on the release mechanism for the boot, this should deter most scumbags.

He has no stickers etc, but we are guessing he was followed from work to the place where he left it.

Unfortunately with us been lazy, car manufacturers put but release buttons and levers in the car..

Ah, but if you have a Scoob there's there's a clever little switch that disconects the internal release

Wonder why so few manufacturers adopt this, inexpensive and hardly rocket science.

a few cars have those switches. But once in the car you car fold the seats down!

But the only real way of dealing with this problem is not to give laptops to ******* thick employee's who leave them in their car!

.. not the employees fault when the company handbook (and the police) say lock your valuables in the boot...
