Cool

Anybody on here had any experience of them? I followed one to work this morning & It appeared to go & handle pretty well. Could be a Wild Card candidate for my next motor.

I had a 97 Ibiza Cupra Sport 8v (115bhp and about 950kg) in 'natural copper'. Very good fun, excellent build and reliability, quite versatile- 60/40 folding seats, good range of mods available (though I didn't do any). Multi-function on-board computer, gp11 insurance. Excellent VFM.

But, with a 0-60 time of 9.something seconds may not be quick enough for some, although once moving it felt brisk enough. Nice, weighty feel to the steering too, but plenty of (very safe) understeer.

The 16v is a bit quicker with 0-60 at about 8.5s, but with gp16 insurance. Comes with a/c too & half-leather trim.

IMHO, avoid the bright yellow/ lime colours. Black looks great, maybe silver. Over the 3 years of ownership, I always liked the copper colour of mine.

Hope that is of some use.

Bex

Wasn't this basically a mk2 Golf chassis. So what you're getting is pretty close to the classic Golf GTIs.

If it drives anything like my mk2 16v did then it will be fantastic!

2.0 16V a lot quicker at the top end, but feels sluggish under 4000rpm compared to the torquey 8V.
Also 16V has better wheels, bigger brakes and half leather seats.

Of the rally colours I still like the bright bengal yellow (used from late 1998), although the earlier snot green ones haven't stood the test of time. Red or black are pretty safe bets.

Other than that, good solid motors with an "old skool" Golf GTi feel.

Mpg is another plus point. on a long motorway drive my 8v could return 50+ mpg - which I also matched on B roads by driving very conservatively during the fuel crisis.

It's hard car to beat for VFM.

Cool

Thanks chaps, very interesting. The only problem might be finding one, owners do seem loathe to part with them
BTW I thought they were based on a Polo?

P.S. I currently drive a turbocharged AWD japanese Saloon, mpg is not really an issue I could buy a f**king Jumbo Jet & still get better mpg

You can normally find the odd one or two on seatcupra.net or www.seatenthusiasts.co.uk. If not then can i recommend Richardsons, they are the company that did most of the work on mine and they are top notch. THere in wellington, somerset which was a 300 odd mile round trip so shows how much i value them! there web site is www.richardsons-group.co.uk or something

Was thinking of selling mine but im not sure now. stand to loose SO much on her and to be honest cant fault it. Makes it hard to justify the change to the missus! lol
