Look what we found at autosport.

Common crank V8 2.6L Hayabusa engine. 290bhp and 200ft/lbs of torque.

How much ???

its still early days as these are actually plastic block mouldings before the real casts are made....somewhere in the region of £15,000

Ian

Ian,

You missed the V8 on the Quaiffe stand then ?

2.0L V8
Between 68 - 73kg (depending on ancilaries)
180 lb/ft torque
320 bhp
12k redline

Oh, and it was tiny, even with the 6 speed seq. gearbox attached. Perfect for any lightweight racers. Oh, and qualifies for 2L class in many competitions

You got that Westie finished yet ?

Cheers

Ian

Mr Watkins,

the westi is finished m8...bar a lick of paint.

finished is not really a good word - it will never be fully finished m8. We have a new pedal box to go in there in the next few weeks, couple of braking mods, and hopefully moving the steering column over a bit too. Other than that - its a good laugh.

fatherpierre,

Yes it is. However the mods you need to get the full 240bhp from an N/A are quite expensive (steel crank, Mahle pistons, 320 degree cams, lots of specialist accessory stuff etc), details here:

http://www.onthenet.com.au/~billzila/4agmods.htm

Much cheaper is to add some home made forced induction. There is a UK Mk1 (1.6!) with 331bhp and 0-60 in the 4s. It was for sale recently for just £5,500, so I guess it can't be that expensive to do?

And it was £5.5k over 3yrs ago!

1/4 mile in 12secs - some beast when you consider how well they handle.

Question

I'd been thinking about a twin 4 cylinder v8 config for a while!

What I'd really like is a full four seat coupe with one of these V8 jobbies which rev massively (ideal body in my view is something like the peugeot RC)

Anyway just a plan at the moment!

Do holeshot make a twin turbo kit yet

Ummm...

we were thinking of the logistics of turbo charging the above. It would be quite tricky to fit that V8 into our car after the introductions of turbos...

Part of the problem is the engine has to go in transverse in the XTR2 with it being chain driven. Four exhaust ports on either side of the engine would make for some very interesting exhaust manifold routing. 1 turbo per bank of cylinders, each bank having its own turbo. We would have to do away with the chain drive too as I'm not sure it would be up to the job.

The single turbo holeshot kit adds an additional set of injectors and piggyback fueling management to cope with the blower. that would mean 16 fuel injectors. The std busa management would need to be junked and replaced with something else. Maybe a MoTeC - can it but control 16 injectors ??? I imagine you'd have to rework the fueling system to have just 8 bigger injectors. The costs for all this lot would be sky high.

Some of the nutters in the USA have already got 500+bhp out of a single busa engine with a turbo...imagine what they could do with this (it would make for an interesting chassis design on the bike TTS now do a 1.9 stroker kit for busa's too - 3.8 V8 twin turbo that can rev to 10,000rpm - sounds interesting

Cool

Ian,

Didn't see the Busa V8, but drooled over the 2L V8 on the Quaife stand. Cool as ****! Thought it would look and sound great in a Westi or Caterham. 6 spd sequential box would be fun too. There was no price on display, but imagine it would be about £12-£15k just for the engine and box.

Would like to do it if I could afford it!
