Rich, the car is worth what someone will pay for it only.
Parkers fair price is £1465 and TBH its rare that I ever pay much more than the fair price for any car!

That is a fair point, but in this case the Parkers description for "fair" does not seem to match the car in question...
"Fair:
Below Average Condition
The private sale value of a car in below-average condition; or the private sale value of a high mileage vehicle which has done an average of 20,000 miles per annum or more.
Cars in below average condition for their age, may not have been serviced regularly or correctly, mileage may be very high, there may be rust, interior may be poor or there may be faults and defects."
So, going off the fact that this car is described as having only 34,800 miles and being in immacualte condition, I would not class it as the "fair" description given above.
Also, going off what others are selling for, then I stand by the fact that £1500 is way too low...

The offer is well below my expectation. This is in mint condition, and only has 34800 miles. Extras incl Ecosse grill, Alloys and low profile tyres, K+N induction kit, Super chip, Lowering springs and all original parts incl chip.
I'm after around £4000 for a quick sale, which I think is a fair price for the car. There are a lot higher mileage XSI's going for over £1000 more.

Glass's guide says:
Manufacturer: PEUGEOT Model: 306 2.0 (94-97) Trim: (sr) XSi
Year: 1996/N Standard Mileage: 65000 Original Price: 14900
Actual Mileage 30000
Retail Price 3520
Excellent Condition 2170
Average Condition 1860
Below Average Condition 1545
If you think you're going to get any money back on the mods, then you're having a laugh. Mods like that will decrease the value in the eyes of most punters. Best bet is to return to standard, sell for a fair price, then sell the mods off separately. IMHO of course

It seems like all these book recommend different prices, so which one is right, if any????
The potential buyer obviously want to buy the car for as cheap as possible, and the seller wants to get as much for it as possible without being ripped off, so it's about agreeing on a happy medium.
I will not be selling mine for next to nothing, and I'll tell anyone, if they can find a better spec and better conditioned one than mine, to snap it up.

Why are you guys trying to ruin this thread!!!!!
The £1500 offer is a joke and whoever made is clearly not
interested in the car!!!!!
Steven If I were you I'd put in on a peugoet forum
where you might get people who are interested in purchasing
a low mileage well looked after non abused car!!!!!!
Good luck & dont let the buggers get you down!!!!

taffy - what do you know about my offer I've owned many french cars (including currently a Citroen ZX - same floorpan as the 306) and am well aware of their values.
I'm in the market for a runnabout - £1500 was an opening offer. I know it was low (but aren't opening offers usually). Assuming the car is excellent (and used cars rarely are) then the trade say's its worth £2100ish with a good car coming in at £1800ish so my £1500 opening offer was -
1 serious
2 a reasonable starting point based on the value I (and anyone who'd seen the CAP/Glasses etc) put on the car!
Good luck selling but as carl suggested you'll get more for the car as standard (unless you try an advert in Revs or similar - that may find someone who is interested)...
Cheers,
Jon

Just checked parkers price guide:
They reckon A1 4.5 grand
Good 4 grand.
I admit that steve would be fortunate to get 4k for it,
But if its as clean as he says it is, he should at least
get double of what he has been offered so far on this BBS.
Ps If I owned a new mondeo deos that make me an authority
on Xtype jags? I think not my friend!!!!!

Parkers values are usually way out in my experience. They're based on an average of the price that cars are advertised for, which is not necessarily what they sell for.
Try buying a '91 Honda NSX for the prices Parkers quote (A1: £15275, Good: £13365, Fair: £8340. The cheapest I've seen one on Autotrader is £18k, and £20-23k is a much more realistic figure. Now the other way round. My MY00 'V' Scoob with 83k on the clock ist listed as A1: £11045, Good: £10395 and Fair: £9395 (with mileage adjustment) -- without the extras like aircon, uprated brakes, etc. According to Parkers I could sell for around £12k -- I think not.
The trade use CAP and Glass's.

Taffy,
I'm certainly no authourity but was mearly someone interested and 'making and offer' (for a quick sale - have the cash available now and wouldn't have been messing around) as the thread asked for. I don't understand why you are so offended and felt it right to say I wasn't a serious buyer when I offered a price within the market value of that type of car.
Steve - good luck with the sale. £4k is way more than I'd consider paying but to someone it who was planning to do the bits you've done it may well be worth it.

Sorry, I just thought you weren't serious because you offered
him less than 1/2 of what his car is actually worth.
I take it back and now understand that it was start point,
I did not mean to offend you, everyone is trying to get
the best deal they can and I cant blame you for that.
Good luck to all parties!!!!!!

I think £4000 ono is an excellent and fair price for this car. Not just because I want the sale, but IMHO it is one of the cleanest and well kept models I have seen. I don't look after much, but I take great care and pride with my cars. I know the parkers etc are a guide of what the car is worth, but when I bought it for £7500, it was higher than the book price, but at the time you couldn't get one for what the Parkers Guide stated it was worth. I appreciate everyones honesty, but for a car that has been featured in the Peugeot Sport club magazine, and in no word of a lie is in immaculate condition, I feel this is a very good price for the car.
