Evo VIII for 22k!
#1
Looks like they are going head to head with the WRX:
The tighter regulations mean the gas-guzzling turbo engine has had to be strangled slightly, so the importer has stripped it of some of the sophisticated technology and will offer the VIII at a bargain price rumoured to be £22,000 - that's £8,000 less than the current model - when it goes on sale in the spring. Then it'll be up to the new owner to uprate the power with dealer-fitted aftermarket kits, which will offer various outputs up to around 320bhp.

I thought the 'strangled' UK version was 220Bhp???
I'd still like the AYC fitted as standard though, as that's one of the more useful parts isn't it?

£22k Evo VIII is only the RS version with small wheels and tiny brakes, no aircon or climate control, no ABS and no AYC.
Basic 'Road' model with 17" wheels and Brembo 4 pot brakes, aircon etc is around £27k
Have a look at http://www.litimports.co.uk

Si,
If you look at the original post from AExpress you will see that it talks about 'an importer'.
I presume that this is talking about Litchfields and not Mitsi UK because Mitsi have not announced the prices whereas Litchfields have.
Also the link between the 'stripping of the electronics' ties in quite well with the spec of the bog standard RS which, according to Litchfields website, is going to be priced at around £22k on the road.
Seems to all add up to me though I may be wrong.

Andy,
It's difficult to tell from the review who actually is the 'importer'. When they say 'importer' I read it to be the USA 'importer'. The car in the review is the one the USA is getting but they also seem to infer that it is the same as we are going to get. Time will tell but even the stripped out RS @ £22K is a bargain IMO.

Si,
It is difficult to say but the 'stripped out' RS model usually comes with tiny 15" steel wheels and really small single pot brakes, no ABS, no AYC etc etc etc. It's built to be sold as a base model for a rally car hence you will be changing the brakes/wheels etc and don't really want AYC/ABS etc etc. It's OK for £22k if you want a rally car but don't expect Evo performance on the road to compare with other Evos when yu have 15" wheels and single pot brakes.

Mitsubishi/Colt cars evo8 will be to GSR spec 280bhp and expect the importers to be very unhappy about the price.
Full info at autosport show next week including prices, they do have one on the stand but its an american version so front bumper will be smaller for European cars.
No desicion has been made about 220bhp version.
