Just wondering what the cheapest car to insure is?

The mrs needs a runabout incase i can't take her to work or pick her up, and i want to insure it in my name to get some no claims bonus! It needs to be the very cheapest car to insure ever and cheap as chips to buy too! will hardly be used!

Lets say £500 budget???????

2CV LOL - my step son has just started driving and wants a car but the insurance is crazy , I phoned a broker up the other day and he told me the Citroen was the cheapest , you should have seen the look on the sprogs face when he seen what it looked like - I think he would rather walk

I built up a few years' NCB in a Panda - it's a nasty, hateful little car, but at least the insurance is cheap. No need for anything other than third party cover either; who exactly is going to steal one?!

For what it's worth, some people are surprised just how cheap it is to insure a Westfield - I pay about £300/yr fully comp (no NCB at all) on mine, and it's quicker than the scooby (>£900/yr, 7 years' NCB). Go figure.

buy two pandas, one to drive and one for spares, it won't cost you more than 100-150 tops each. Market is full of them. Actually i may buy one in the next few months for my missus.

no, it can't be bad
My mum used to have one for seven years, and apart from the oil change and the tyres, the only thing we changed was the clutch cable which was 5 quid, so we bought two...

Exclamation

Recaro seats = modified car. If you want cheap insurance, steer clear.

A Mk1 Fiesta should come in around £100 to buy, plus group 2 insurance and very cheap, fix-it-yourself parts (eg exhaust - £20). Most are much less rusty than Mk2 Fiestas, which would be my major concern with any ageing Fiat!

Get a late '70s 850cc Mini, 50mpg, grp1 insurance, loads of fun and cool too ( unlike the Panda.. ), take someone with you who knows about Minis if you find any possible contenders though, coz rust will have had loads of time to set in. There are a few low mileage one owners about, but not for £500..
