Looks like we should stuff the Focus in the dustbin where it belongs :):):)

Seems like people now realise there is a new King :) It appeared quitely, but the word is out now.

Back to Dagenham for the Ford:) Back to Swindon with your Type R's :) and back to the Chunnel with your Clios :)

Jonathan

stu_allen 22 December 2002 10:13 PM

Except that it wasnt involving to drive.
Give me my swindon rev-muncher anyday!

Cosworth427 22 December 2002 10:13 PM

?????

Why should people get rid of their Type-R Civics, and their Focus RS?

JaseM 22 December 2002 10:26 PM

Well chins at the rate that hot hatches are coming out I'd say u've got at least 3 months

MooseRacer 22 December 2002 10:26 PM

Fine if you like your driving along the lines of boring teutonic express.

Otherwise stick to a car that's enjoyable to drive.

skiddus_markus 22 December 2002 10:45 PM

Why should people get rid of their Type-R Civics, and their Focus RS?
Because the new Golf went 3 secs faster then the WRX on the Top Gear test track and 1 sec slower than the RS.

BOB.T 22 December 2002 11:38 PM

Yeah, the Golf was a second slower so therefore utterly crap and and a complete waste of X thousands pounds.... the fact VW didn't run it round the track before releasing it is shocking:eek:

Mantamac 23 December 2002 12:39 AM

There's no doubt the golf is a nice car and a quick one , but I think I'll keep my Evo 6 thank's.:D:D

Mac.;)

Toonman1 23 December 2002 09:37 AM

And I'll hang onto my 02 WRX PPP.

The R32 may've been 3 secs faster than a Std WRX on the Top Gear track, but I never drive there, and I guess most of you don't either... I do note however, that the Focus RS when tested by Top Gear magazine, was only 1.5 secs faster than a Std WRX around a real racing circuit - Anglesey. Mind, I don't drive there either. I'll stick to real roads.

Cheers

Mike

TRIGGER 23 December 2002 10:37 AM

It's an odd track they use though - different track would bring different results I am sure. But as you say surely they should be looking at the Sti's not standard Uk cars - the standard Uk's are so heavy nowadays they just arent the same car the old shape one was.

I quite fancy the R32 though...

father_jack 23 December 2002 10:38 AM

Anyone know where you can buy the Golf, though they were sold out. Import maybe?

wrxfreak2000 23 December 2002 11:08 AM

What's the big deal?
Honda S2000 produces 250 ps out of 2 liter NA engine...
Oh, and I thought that R32 is the trademark of the
legendary Skyline GTR :)
David

fivepint 23 December 2002 11:10 AM

wont succed here in ireland, on road tax alone its a pricey bugger....

Scoob = 462 pa

Civic = 343 pa

Golf = 1000pa!!!

cant imagine what the VRT will be, never mind the insurance, I cant even get quoted on the Civic! with full NCB

Cheers

WISHING 23 December 2002 11:10 AM

There are loads of Golf R32's for sale.
Dealers were allocated cars, some dealers have given them to other dealers cos they cant sell them. My local dealer has one and cant sell it !!!!

The Golf was 1 second slower round a wet track the the Focus RS............... Whos got the 4 wheel drive????

So round a dry track ??

TelBoy 23 December 2002 11:23 AM

At the end of the day, it's still 23 grand for a Golf.

What do VW think they're doing any differently to Ford and their Racing Puma?

People won't pay seriously over the odds for a car which the average man on the street, the people potential buyers are mainly trying to impress, wouldn't recognise from the hole in their arse...

father_jack 23 December 2002 11:31 AM

Which dealer is this Wish? I asked my local ones a few weeks back, but they couldn't get them / weren't interested. Typical VW sales types.....

father_jack 23 December 2002 11:42 AM

LOL - just had a look on autotrader - they range from £26k up to £30k for a second hand one with 1,500 miles on it - cheeky feckers

WISHING 23 December 2002 11:42 AM

email me and i will give you the details of the dealer.
But they have one now and one coming 2nd week of January

Both are Black

father_jack 23 December 2002 11:55 AM

Would do but your email address is not there..... Mine is there.

Cheers

FJ.

Marky-San 23 December 2002 12:10 PM

The Golf's a nice car - no doubts.

I much prefer the skyline R32 - even back 10 years ago, this car is superior to lots of modern day 'sports cars'.

So I agree 'Long live the R32 (Skyline)' ;)

Mega 23 December 2002 04:34 PM

I Think you have to do the Performance V Cost thinking. Also factor in Resale/Build Q. In the end no real choice, CTR my friends!
Mega.

chrisp 23 December 2002 05:35 PM

what this standard WRX people are talking about I have never seen one :D

Chins 23 December 2002 06:05 PM

Wishing

I'd email you, but you havnt left an email address !!

Please email me

Type R 23 December 2002 08:18 PM

Why oh why would anyone want the overwait ugly Golf?

Ugly Ugly Ugly

Gentleman we have a new high speed Bread Van, with out the fun.

Long Live the R32 Skyline.

CTR/172/RS, all look better, and are more fun, wouldnt even consider it if I were to replace mine.

Bin all the goodies, throw a roll cage in, and we may have a quick car, but for that money I want fast and the Golf is not :p .

swisskenny 23 December 2002 09:20 PM

Have you tried out the Golf R32 to make such a statement? Probably not!
If I am correct looking at your name you must be fund of the CTR, well must I say that it is far of been as nice as the R32. It looks more like a van than a sports car!!! But it does have good performance.
I tried both of those cars and in no way can the CTR be as good as the R32,the engine in the R32 is great and very torquee and what an engine sound.

dhorwich 23 December 2002 09:35 PM

If it wasnt for depreciation i would rather have one of these: said to be the most powerful production hot hatch to date..

JaseM 23 December 2002 09:41 PM

Yes it may be heavy

But..

*It beat the CTR round the track on topgear by a considerable margin.
*It's better built, a more classier interior, better for long journeys (comfort & sound proofing)
*Likey to be more insurance friendly.
*Does not look like a bread van.
*Better standard kit.

And I'm sure on the road (the real world) the R32 would again be better (especially with all that torque).
And I'm sure it won't depreciate that badly, all golfs seem to hold their price well.

The CTR's a great hatch but not the best, I put it about 3rd or 4th.

JDMCTR 23 December 2002 10:25 PM

swisskenny - Are you so sure he is driving the new CTR?? Just because he's a Type R driver doesn't make him a new CTR driver or a ITR driver either. Yeah the R32 is torquee but then again it is 3.2 litre V6 isn't it...

Also if I recall not all CTR's look like vans...

[Edited by JDMCTR - 12/23/2002 10:27:30 PM]

JaseM 23 December 2002 10:44 PM

Sorry I said bread van.

If they did it in white I'd be looking for the hovis sign.

JDMCTR 23 December 2002 11:01 PM

err..yes but not all CTR's are bread vans either.
