From what I can recall from the initial blurb (bearing in mind this is not more than 90% accurate)
It has a rotary Wankel engine which has a calculated displacement of 1.2litres actually has a block which is more akin to the size of a 2.5ish. Develops somewhere in the region of 250 horses (turbo'd if I recall). RWD. Funky suicide doors which interlock to form the C pillar.
Supposed to be around the 30k mark. Don't know about weight.
Only problem from RX-7s of old (which had an earlier version of the engine)was that they were very thirsty (in a scoob kinda way) and they went through rotor tips like nobodys business. Very high maintenance and running costs.
That's it off the top of my head, but I'm sure the article will have the info in a more final format. Hope this helps in the meantime though.
Cheers,

You don't say exactly what you are after, but overal the previews (I'd say the one in Car was the most detailed) seem to find it a more spacious, comfortable, user-friendly version of the RX-7.
The engine is a 1308c rotary (no turbos, hopefully they will get approval to add some later and make a proper RX-7 replacement) producing 237bhp. Sixty comes up in about 6 seconds, and it tops out at around 150mph.
It it expected next summer for approaching 25k.

For more information have a look at the Mazda Rotary CLub website, they have a forum dedicated to the RX8.
It is a NON-Turbo car, so like most of the other normally aspriated rotarys, they will just keep going.
The reason for the engine rebuild on the RX7, is due to the way the power is delivered. The RX8 has a brand new design of rotary engine.

They dont go through engines that badly, a well maintained Rotary should last up to 70k miles, and then cost around £3k to rebuild, but you then get a lot of miles of good driving out of it for that 3 grand.
Not that bad really, they are very high performance units, so obvuously a little extra tlc is required, but one thats been looked after shouldnt be any less reliable than a top of the range Impreza, plus you have the added bonus of the clutch etc actually being built to last, even with extra power.

Sideshow, the RX-8 should last longer than 70k miles. Non-turbo rotaries are already lasting longer than that. The Renisis engine is designed to be even stronger.
ChosenOne, the RX-8 is NOT a replacement for the RX7. The new RX7 is on the drawing boards at the moment. The engine is most likly to be shared between the cars, but that would be about it.
The RX-8 is going to share the same suspension system as the Mazda 6. Which is VERY trick.

Danny is correct, the RX8 is not an RX7 replacement. As stated above, it is non-turbo 237bhp with 4 seats and 4 doors, the rear 2 known as 'suicide doors'. However, weight is meant to be kept to a minimum so bhp/tonne should be similar to my STi7.
Current top gear mag says it should be able to hang on to the tail of a new STi over a good stretch of road.
Here are some pics I took at the motorshow. This is still a pre-production car and some minor changes will be made to the final car. (No indicators in the wing mirrors for example - shame).
If it:
a) drives as good as they say
b) looks as good as this
c) costs under £25k
then I most definately want one.
