my gf's dad has a 106, the door didn't shut properly so i had a look at it, turns out the opening arm thingy was broken and the latch fell inside the door itself and the place where it goes onto was ripped (the metal part of the door) what can i do to fix it??? do i but another latch and get a metal plate welded to the door or just hammer it back and hope the latch thing goes on? or do i take the bar thing that hooks on to the door allowing it to not open fully??? any ideas?

which bit came away..

The latch bolts into the door... the bracket on the car is spot welded on and a pin holds the two together.
