I have decided to sell the P1 and exchange it for a small runaround which is much cheaper to run, as well as a fun car for the weekends.

My last car was a Lotus Elise which was great but using it everyday got a bit tiresome in the end. Now I am going to be running a normal everyday car I want to get something a bit mad for the weekends

My budget is £15,000 and I am currently considering a Westfield Megabird or a road legal ex-racing Caterham does anyone have any experience of these cars? Good sources for buying them?

What other alternatives can anyone suggest?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Si

Si, if you want to go the Caterham route, take a look in the for sale section of Blatchat www.blatchat.com

There are some ex academy / racers on there that will have been well looked after well within your budget.

i bought a westy megablde for 10k,

You can pick one up for 10k or less, and save dosh for tuning or just plop iut in the bank.

Avoid bird engine cars, busas are the muts nuts, and you could see one for 14-15k, be warned if yo upop a blade engine, itll cost you 800 quid, pop a busa and its 3k
My blade westy left a new shape sti for dust on LLandow track, and i am not that good a driver

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Although the Griff does look nice and I did test drive one before I got the P1, I don't really want the running costs of a TVR for a second car. I just want something that will be cheapish to run, hold its money OK and be ridiculously fast round a track

Looks like a Caterham of Westie are still the most popular, the only problem I can foresee is the fact that I am 6' 2" tall, I have heard you can get long nose Caterhams, does anyone know about these?

The fatboy (sorry ) Caterham is called the SV, but you wont find too many ex-racer / modded versions of those about.

I'm 6'4 and I fit in a normal one fine (although clumpy shoes are a problem) - could be a problem if you are on the wide side though.

Thanks mate,

Fortunately I am not that wide so it sounds like I should be OK with a normal sized Caterham.

Cheers

Si

I've got a Scoob as a day to day and bought an ex-race Caterham 2.0 Litre Vauxhall nearly two years ago for £13k. Original sales receipt from Caterham in 1997 was £27k! With over 200 bhp its almost R500 pace and the vx is a very under stressed unit. Plus as an ex-race car its a bit safer for track days - Cage, harnesess, electrical cut outs, re-enforced fuel tank, etc.

I share the car with someone who is 6ft 2 and he has no problems driving though you'd want to get some racing boots.

Its proved an absolutely brilliant buy. Email me if you want more info or you're welcome to come and have a look / have a run in the car at the car - I'm in Rotherhithe so easy to get to from Chislehurst.
