I have one of these and was wondering how far the Reno would be behind the mighty Scoob, off the lights and round a track???

As far as I am aware the 172, owned by Wicksy from the cliosport forum, was completely standard!

Andy-watched the clip against the P1's.A tad more power and the Clio would have had at least one of them as it was taking much better lines and seem to be more track aware than the other 2.

Raced my P1 on some storming back roads using in the Cambridge area for road testing against two different 172s, both i believe to be lightly modded. Danny172 certainly knows how to drive and would probably comment that my P1 (alcons on it) was picking when and how to nail him every time, i had a massive traction and braking advantage plus more power.

Great cheap car though the 172, just not in P1 territory at all.

I have a CUP now, and find it great fun. It is not a flawless car, gear change and seats are below par, but it handles very well, and acceleration is more than respectable, as shown by my first AP22 runs yesterday.
Start Speed 0.0mph
mph s g ft hp
10.0 0.96 0.49 6 32
20.0 1.94 0.45 28 60
30.0 2.81 0.54 60 109
40.0 4.08 0.41 126 114
50.0 5.24 0.36 204 129
60.0 6.63 0.28 316 130
70.0 8.70 0.25 513 141
80.0 10.72 0.22 736 154
90.0 13.77 0.16 1117 152

Pk Power: 77.8mph 10.24s 680ft 164hp
Peak G: 79.6mph 15.60s 1355ft 0.63g

2nd run, opposite direction:

Start Speed 0.0mph
mph s g ft hp
10.0 0.98 0.50 6 32
20.0 1.88 0.43 26 58
30.0 2.73 0.53 58 106
40.0 4.05 0.42 127 117
50.0 5.27 0.36 207 130
60.0 6.64 0.30 319 135
70.0 8.77 0.22 522 130
80.0 10.80 0.23 746 162

Pk Power: 79.9mph 10.79s 745ft 164hp
Peak G: 71.0mph 12.89s 992ft 0.73g

The standard 172 has ABS brakes, which is a GOOD thing for road driving, mine hasn't, which demands a lot of respect.

Good fun though.

I don't think you can compare the two on a single platform - both very able cars, and the Clio Cup at a shade over £10k would probably be a cool car for the track ?

Looks like a cracking car for the money but was only gaining under braking and by taking better lines. A decent driver makes a helluva difference. On the straights it was getting toasted.

For the same money, or thereabouts you could have had a Jap Import Integra Type R (racing) ?

Yep we creamed Danny in the yellow 172 and that other silver 172 trying to look like the V6.
