As some of you know I've been pondering what car to get for a while. I was looking at sensible cars, with 4 seats, etc, etc, but my circumstances have changed!
I've got a job that's 10 minutes walk away from the house, so I don't need it to be sensible at all!!!
I'm looking for a fun car to use at weekends, but I don't what! Ideally I don't want a new car as it will just sit on the drive losing money!
Considering:
An early Elise
Lancia Stratos replica!
Caterham/Westfield
Late Legacy turbo
I really haven't a clue, as ideally I want to spend less than £8k, but will stretch to about £12k if it's the right car!
Any thoughts?
Andy

Andy.
Go for a Toyota Celica GT4, performance/handling is excellent. Looks is in a class of its own ! Pick the ST205 up for about 6k, check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GT-Four-Owners-UK/messages
for information.
I have a ST205 WRC model which has very good performance. At the moment 280 bhp 289 lbs/ft. The mods haven't finished yet, got the car booked in on the 7/10/02 for WI/Unichip. Also ordering a down pipe...
Regards
Kev..

I know what you mean about the Elan, a friend had a big servie and the brakes needed replacing and he ended up with a bill for £900!!!
Elise is top of my list, but I can't seem to find a cheap one with a hard top and it needs to be T-reg or newer (the cost of being vain and having a personal number plate!)

ST205 would be too heavy to make a fun car, nice enough cars, but they dont half weigh a lot, plus any work tends to be expensive, with the engine coming out for a lot of it.
The Lotus is a good choice, you can work on it yourself a lot, largely rover bits, so not too expensive (unless you insist on buying from Lotus!!), great handling stock, and enough performance to make it a fun track/ weekend car, plus RWD. and they turn heads, Celica is very dated styling.
Or, a Teg Type-R, thatd be good fun, and reasonable ones can be had for around £8500, but again, looks are rather dated, but very reliable, reasonable running costs, and LOTS of fun, very chuckable.

A cheap second hand STI type R which you can mod like mad.
If not go for a Porsche 944. It may be old but I had a great time owning one in my younger days.

Dunno, personally I'd have an S2 944 over an Elise any day of the week, at least I'd be confident it would work 100% everytime I want to use it, not just when it felt like it

How about a dax rush? I believe you can buy a minter with a tweeked cossie lump(300-350bhp) for around £12k in some cases cheeper. I was giving serious consideration to one but want something that won't be life threatening in the winter months!!

I don't fancy having a car I have to 'mod like mad' *again*!!!
A fairly standard Elise or Integra it is then!
Now the only problem that some of you over look is that I need the car to be T-reg or newer!!! Due to me wanting my tarty number plate back on a car!

The only thing I have to say, is Legacy's rule.....And at the price, does depreciation really matter?? it will be pretty small, if any. Everyone knows that legacys are the best....dont they??

I have a couple of cars in mind now!
I keep changing my mind! My girlfriend's face glazes over when I mention cars and I get the stock answer of "Yes dear!"
Narrowed down the list to what I wanted when it wasn't a weekend car!!
Elise or Integra!
