Anyone read 'Build your own sportscar', by Ron Champion

I've always wanted a Caterham, but now I've got the time I don't fancy their prices so I bought this the other week for a little light reading. Basically he shows you how to build a Lotus 7 lookalike for around £250, but I think £1000 would be nearer the mark.
I was just wondering if anyone on here had tried it, and how did it go?

Not tried it, but flicked thru the book a couple of times.
I thought that you'd be lucky to get out for under £1000 to £1500 too - unless you can find people to donate the parts
Am currently thinking of a Robin Hood 2B instead, as the outlay would be similar, and you get a kit, so it's going to be an easier build (which I'm more likely to finish) www.robinhoodengineering.co.uk
Will be helping a friend with his next month.
Just need to find somewhere to build it, and some way of getting it past the purse string holder

I've had the book about a year, and perused it many times.
I'm thinking about building one for next summer. I've had the tape measure out this weekend, seeing on AutoCAD whether i can get 2 cars AND the Locost in my double garage. (It's possible, but tight).
I don't want to weld or manufacture anything, so i think i'll get everything from Stuart Taylor Motorsport. I reckon u can build a Fireblade engined one for about £4000.

I work in the engineering industry, so finding somebody to fabricate the chassis isn't a problem, in fact one of our frame suppliers is interested in doing his own in parallel.
I'm wondering more about time involved and mechanical hitches with getting it through SVA than anything.
I'm also thinking about using an IRS set up, a la Westfield, as I've just bought an MY99 gearbox & diff set for my Legacy turbo and now have a spare rear LSD diff lying around

That does, but the link in your post sends you to a mid engined GT kit
