The new Audi S4....
#1
Audi is unveiling the sporty top model in the A4 range. The new S4 is making its debut at the 2002 Paris Motor Show. Like its predecessor, the current version is also available as a saloon and an Avant. The heart of the new Audi S4 is quite clearly its engine - a further refined V8 with chain drive at the rear and a swept volume of 4.2 litres. It produces 253 kW (344 bhp) and a torque of 410 Nm.
The S4 consequently sets clear benchmarks in the B-segment: a benchmark for supreme power development resulting from the engine?s large capacity, and a benchmark therefore for unmistakeable dynamic handling.
The eight-cylinder engine?s thrust enables the new Audi S4 with 6-speed manual gearbox to complete the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds. It takes just 20.6 seconds to reach 200 km/h, whilst the top speed is a governed 250 km/h.

therefore??????
How do they make that link? Unless it's the fact that due to being grossly over-engined, the handling will be, erm, unmistakeable.
Big engine, very fast, lots of toys, yadda yadda. When it handles with the best of them - as Audis currently don't - then wake me up. Until then, goodnight.

I think this looks the business. Never driven one of the real performance Audi's so I can't comment on handling. The S4 Avant is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking to graduate from a Scoob to. I need the space of an estate these days (or big saloon - like the new E Class too) but IM's decision not to bring out the STi wagon over here makes me want to change (after a lot of saving up, as I acknowledge there's nothing else comes close to my scoob for the money). I also fancy a bit of classy German/Scandinavian build quality next time round.
I followed a new RS6 Saloon to the station this morning. First one I'd seen. Looked VERY cool.

I saw one in Cambridge yesterday evening- it was parked on Sidwick Avenue for anyone who knows the area - I was driving past (in my Scoob and so did get a brilliant look but it did look very nice.
Ben.
Edited to say that I realise that its being debuted at the Paris motor show but I'm pretty sure thats what I saw and not an S6.

I think the new S4 will cost a bit more than £30K. I think the old one cost alot more and I 'd have to agree, why get rid of the twin turbo's? Lastly as with most of Audi's performance models it doesn't look special enough. I mean apart from the twin exhausts how exactly does it differ from a normal A4. I know subtlety is the way to go these days but how pissed off would you be if you just spent £40K plus on your shiny new S4 which looked almost identical to a £20K A4 1.6. Even BMW acknowledged the need to try to distance the new M3 from it's 3 series siblings.
