Try mercedes owners club i.e.http://mercedesclub.org.uk
I have had a new ML270CDi for 6 months now. Whilst its no Impreza its pulls pretty well for a big 'lump' especially once you are on the move. With all the electronic gizmos its susprising how quick you can leave (some) other cars behind on the twisty 'bits'. Also till the new model comes out(late 2004) it holds its value better than most I've also been averaging 28mpg (over 30 on the 'clear' roads in Scotland etc.) which puts the old Impreza to shame.
Cheers,
Dieter

Hi Max(?).
Does anyone buy the manual? (resale). Its not too great anyway I've read. I went for the autobox which you are supposed to be able to 'train' by thrashing/poodling around using 'manual' (tiptronic) gear changes etc. (i.e. train it to change gear at higher or lower revs etc.). I do use c.control a lot which may help so all I have to do is steer (and admire the scenery, ignore the gatsos etc.etc.).
Did have a 'go' in the ML500 which was great but don't fancy < 20mpg nor the extra cost!.
Cheers,
Dieter

hi paul
would love a bm x5 (4.6 all the way!!) but finances just do not persist
saw a used m-class cdi270 which looked like it was at a good price, which is why i was asking, keep hearing good things about the merc diesel engines (always on the hunt for a good bargain)
anyway am in this half way house position, do i buy a performance car like a p1 or s3( flame proof on!!!) or something sensible like the diesel for all the reasons you listed about the merc, i mean bm 330d, says it all??? help???!!!!
choices choices hey!!!!
try grand theft auto to ease your 'problem'!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)
max
