yup, had a 24hr test drive, ok car, but not to my liking around town, felt a bit clunky/jumpy. Great on the motorway, and you can import one for £21k when they are £27k new here! Hence I've ordered an Audi A4 Avant.

any Saab dealer should let you have a 24hr test drive as long as you insure it yourself.

regards,

greg

Torque figures are meaningless without decent gearing...

Tried one as a replacement for my wife't RAV4, it rolled a bit too much for me round corners (this was the ARC version) and was a little sluggish in pulling away. Interior is better than anything that Subaru can make.

Fuel economy is meant to be great and would probably make a good towing car.

Ended up with an H6 Outback, as visibility was better, performance is comparable though better subjectively from a standing start, and fuel economy is similar to the 2.5 Outback. Preferred the handling too.

Try the 9-5 Aero, that's better.

A mate has a 9-5 Aero estate, he's thinking of an LPG conversion, reckons he'll get the cost equivalent of 40mpg and still have 230bhp.

Within a couple of years Saab are launching a variable compression petrol engine soon. IIRC they are aiming to get >200bhp from a 1600cc engine that will do 40mpg. Rumour has is that they have these engines out already in cars on the road, being evaluated.

If this were true, you'd be hearing them from miles away already (the variable-compression engine is extremely noisy at the moment)
