Porsche 993

The 993 is, as you probably already know, genrally regarded as being the best of the non-RS 911's in almost every respect.
The first manual 993's only had a 5 speed box but the later ones had the 6.
The front boot on the 4 is smaller due to the 4WD gubbins which may be an issue if you need luggage space for long trips...
This US based board is quite busy...

I would have loved one but chose a new Boxster instead and it has been fantastic. I drove a 993C2 briefly in the wet at Snetterton and don't remember it feeling any more 'punchy' than my MY00 but that is hardly the point...

abandoned 993 search last year due to interior being crappy, ended up getting a 996 which is much better on the inside. Just had a minor service including brake fluid and it was 500Euros at a dealer.

I'm considering getting shut of my p1 and thinking about getting a 993.Does anybody on here own a 993 or had one,who could give me some info on what they are like to run(reliability, maintenance, etc)
Also which would be the best model to go for c2,c4,conv,etc.

I was in much the same situation earlier in the year. The nasty interior put me off in the end - very dated, but it may not bother you as the car is so pretty on the outside...
If you can stretch to a lhd turbo, I don't think you'll be dissappointed

Thanks for the replys.Totally agree about the interior was very dissapointed when I first saw it.However the exterior makes up for it.How does the 993 compare with the p1 performance wise?

can't comment on P1 but I had an STi before and its a very different drive to the 996. No big turbo kick in the pants(you'll miss this) but a much more linear power through the gears and it feels a lot more solid so you get surprised at the speed, 100 feels like 75-80 in my scoob. I've got a C4 and handling wise it feels less twitchy than my Sti was but I put that down to electronics. All I can say is that driving wise its a different experience, whether its better I think is up to taste. I was initially slightly dissapointed but only because it was less seat of the pants than my Sti but between the sound and the looks and now I'm used to the solidity of the drive then its better but is it 3 times better ? I'm not 100% sure but its still growing on me daily, plus I've not had to do a single mod. Which really is a good thing.

Plus I had it up to 267KMph on Italian Toll road and no scoob wil do that . I ran out of bottle before the car ran out of steam.
