So far cars on the shortlist -
Ford Puma (sensible)
Ford Focus (bet I'd end up supercharging it!)
Nissan 200 SX
Pug 306 (a friend runs a 'serious' peugeot tuning outfit so this could be a dangerous choice!)
Discounted
Corrado (great handling, not got Air Con on most, but looks and insurance don't do it!)
Integra (To raw)
106 Raylle (No A/C, crap at 100+mph)
Mazda MX6 (ford probe in drag)
Primera (Bland + had one before!)
Clio ***** (group 18 insurance - not a great cruiser)
MK2/3 Golf (Too Old/Fat)
Skyline (got one already - still four figure insurance for a Non Turbo)
E30 325 Sport (old...)
Fiat Barachetta (LHD, Fiat)
Fiat Coupe (group 19 insurance, Fiat, costly services)
Calibra (Cav in drag...)
Maybe's
Honda Civic Coupe (Engine swap and mugen bits anyone )
Honda Prelude (Dear insurance?)
Honda Accord (Slow? Bland?)
Celica ST185 GT4 (old, reliability?)
Ford Mondeo V6 (bland, but otherwise fits)

...Any suggestions
Got about a 4k budget (flexible), not scared of auctions and want something that will -
- do at least 30mpg and not drop to stupid MPG when hammered, (I had a Sharan TDI pool car once, should do 45mpg, I used to get 17mpg!);
- cruise all day in quiet comfort at 100mph;
- turn heads (though not as much as the skyline);
have air con;
- Cost sensible amounts to insure (Currently my second car is a Rover 620Ti, group 16 insurance + group 20 insurance = too much);
- be reliable.
I can't think of anything that fits the bill yet, any suggestions? It needs to be good to keep the miles off the GTR - I've done either 2k or 3k in the past 4 weeks, either way too much for a car that does 15mpg

Honda accords are durable beasts. I put 150k miles on one in 4yrs without it ever breaking down. When I sold it on it had 200k on the clock and I've seen it driving around a year later. A great mile muncher that gave 35mpg on long runs (2 litre version).

2.0 Prelude. Honda engine goes for ever. Turns head with some nice wheels. I luved every minute of mine. Does 33mpg ave...even when thrashed...drops to 29. The VTEC 2.2 is more common...loads on imports...less mpg.etc and higher insurance. the 2.0 is uk spec. comfortable cruiser. for 4k u shd get a p reg

whats 1 mpg between friends
I'm going to have to investigate insurance seems overkill to pay £800 odd notes for a second car (on top of £1350 for the Skyline!), maybe stick to a pug 306/ford fungus instead where insurance is half that

I paid 600 quid for my 2.0 Prelude. 5yr ncd. this was with Elephant, so specialists might even be cheaper. Sure the 2.2 vtec is dearer as its much quicker. But the 2.0 is a good compromise.
