Caterfields or Stripped out New ITR ?
#1
Whats peoples thoughts.
Somebody has offered me a good price on my car, and want a car purely for trackdays, and the odd jaunt out on a Sunday afternoon. The new ITR is the most expensive at 16K + extras, no heating, manual winders etc, or a Caterfield for around 13K, and spending 3K buying a cheap run around.
Thanks in advance

I'd go the Caterfield route. You can pick up some well nice ones for < 10K. That should leave you around 5K for a runaround, and 1K to treat yourself
Well for a Westie anyway, the Caterhams tend to be 2-3k more

For a track car and occaisional weekend car, the caterham/westie route is the way to go. The ITR is a great little car, but will feel like a diesel MPV compared to a decent Westie.
My little westie cost me £13k at 4 mts old. Fireblade engined, 330bhp/tonne (almost double the ITR), 6-speed sequential manual gearbox, 12500rpm red line and an F1 soundtrack.
On track it is virtually unbeatable. 400kg mean it corners faster, stops better as well as the PWR advantages. As an indicator, at Donington a friend in my car was going for another gear at the point a new 991 turbo was starting to brake!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong, the westie is as impractical as they come. Dry only use (no windscreen/roof/doors and cut click tyres) so if you value the slightest bit of practicality then it isn't for you. But on dry sunny days, it is about the biggest 4-wheeled rush around....and as it is dry and sunny, guess where I'm going right now??

Theres a well sorted Westie Megablade for sale in car and Car Conversions.
Has been used for racing and is around £10k.......
Would obviously need the engine thoroughly checked but it seems a good price - comes with 12 wheels/tyres too.....
I also think Westfield have a couple of FW400s for sale - the carbon tubbed jobbies.......
For 13k you should also be able to pick up a nice Megabusa...
Slightly quicker to 100 than the fireblade jobs but much faster over that.

Second hand Westfields? Try:
www.autotrader.co.uk - there were about 50 there last time I looked
www.wscc.co.uk and follow links to 'boardroom'
www.westfield-sportscars.co.uk - there's a few under 'previously owned', guaranteed top condition but pricey
www.findit.co.uk/cars/westfield.htm has a good selection
www.terrynightingale.co.uk - specialist dealer, mixed reviews
'Westfield World', the Westfield Sports Car Club magazine, has a load of classified ads in the back. It's well worth joining the WSCC for this alone.
www.pistonheads.com has a few classified ads too.
Buy a Westy and you'll be in good company, there are plenty of Scoobynet regulars who have bought them to replace or supplement their Scooby. Book yourself onto the factory tour - they're only too happy to show people round - and you'll get a test drive in one too. It's a great way to spend a couple of hours, and essential if you're thinking of buying one IMHO.
Best of luck,
Andy.

hi matt - you still thinking about this ?
i'd say that for pure trackday work the caterfield wins, cheaper to run, quicker (probably, though anyone who's seen the two old blokes who track day their race prep'd ITR's will know that an ITR can be made to go faster than most other things) and more easily repairable - which, to me, is the real problem with the integra. You cant get spares cheap and theres virtually no second hand parts market; first time you come off you'll be looking at a big bill.
Now as you like FWD saloons, my recommendation is to go buy a race car (something from the Mod Prod or Castle Combe saloon series for example) for 5 or 6K which will give you a barking mad track day car and you can try your hand at racing too (which makes track days seem like running down to sainsburies...)

Hi Jon, hope the 205 is running well.
Well Im test driving the new ITR tomorrow, and a few Westies over the w/e, but you know me change my mind like the wind, as Ive spent 2K on my car this year since i last saw you.
At the moment and for the forseeable future i just don't need a car, so I thought get a mainly track car/fun w/e car, and it just happened that someone emailed re the new Teg (Stripped out), and then thought for that sort of cash get a Westie.
