My girlfriend is looking for her first car and she's decided on a Ford Ka.
It needs to have a low insurance group as she has never had car insurance before, hence the Ka.
We'll consider a good used (up to 18 months old) or a European import.
It must have air con and electric windows & central locking will be a bonus.
If you know someone selling or a good place to go (preferably in the SE) please let me know!
Cheers
Andy

Problem is that the Fiesta comes in more expensive!
With both the cost of the car, and in insurance which is a few groups higher!
Try to think back when you first bought car insurance and how much of a difference a few groups made!!
The Ka's are insurance group 3 at for the 'Collection' model that we are looking at. Fiestas are group 6 !!! It makes a big difference in cost!

I know Maidstone Ford were selling brand new KA at £5495 OTR and that's not a misprint. Though only the boggest of the bog spec, but brand new with 3 yr warranty.

In that case, wouldn't you be better off with a 1.1 Saxo? A far superior drive, IMHO. I think they do the base model new at £5995 with some sort of free insurance deal, so it may work out cheaper than a Ka with a lower purchase price.

KA's are brilliant little cars with a 5hite engine.
It really is unbelievably gutless. But they handle superbly.
Looked at Saxos and the build quality inside and out wasn't a patch on it - plus it's not got a great driving position.
Shame Ford didn't stick the Zetec in.
All IMHO of course

Bear in mind this car isn't for me!!!
She's happy my mk2 Golf, but the problem is the group 14 insurance! I want to move on car-wise, so it's time to say bye to the Golf!
Rightly or wrongly, we don't like the look of the Saxo and after having my fingers burnt with a ZX I vowed never to buy a Citroen again!
We've found a car that is the right spec and the right colour, and is available from Septemeber (The power of Scoobynet!)
So some might rate it as a cack engine, but it's not going to be a road racer or set the tarmac alight, but it will be fine for communting and being parked on the road!
Fiesta's suffer greatly from depreciation due to it being a popular hire car, and the the Ka is easier (lighter clutch and slick gear changes) to drive compared to the Golf.
Now the prob, is what to replace the Golf with? Preferably not another 350-oddbhp Impreza!

Actually, a lot of Ford places do the free insurance for a year, check out on the net for dealers who do it, it may be worth the travel to do so!!!!
Not too sure on whether or not my local dealer which I bought my two Fords off are still doing it, so I shall check for you.

Reffro,
Someone on the board is selling his commuting car.
cletterridge,
Again, we're not really bothered about the engine! It will be use round town and taken on a trip round the North Circular every now and again. That's it! Reasonable on fuel, and will reach motorway speeds in a reasonable time.
Long trips will be taken in my car, but I'm still not sure what to get!

Chelle,
Don't worry about checking, all Ford dealers are still offering that deal on most of the range.
I've seen the on 1.2 Clio's, most of the Saxo range, some Pugs, etc, etc.
To be honest, we found the car we wanted, to the spec we require. New it would cost nearly £9k!!! We think we've got a deal for a year old one.
Insurance will be about £350 fully comp. Better than if Caroline took over my mk2 Golf GTI (£650 )
