Default Carwow.....or may be no wow..???

Guys,
has anybody got any experience of this internet site?

The story is, im getting itchy feet for a new car again.
Im thinking of something the wife will predominantly drive as I work from home and don't really need a car to be fair. We do have use of 2 cars though anyway. But I would like something nice for the weekends perhaps.

Thought of an SLK (queue the hairdresser jokes)
Anyhow I like the older version to start with 2009 ish SLK55 AMG.
As my search goes on I get to thinking why not get a newer version of the SLK as the price of a good one is £20k ish and go for the diesel instead.(no slouch...)
I then progress to the new version SLC and think maybe price one up on this Carwow site.
At the same time I request the SLC 250 D AMG LINE price and also the SLC43 AMG ,thinking in for a penny in for a pound...!
Got the results back and see there is a saving of upto 23%. Wow...!!
Or maybe not .
Contacted the dealer most local to me and not the best price, but thought lets try both models and see which suits best. I can order it from cheapest if I want at later date.
Dealer very evasive about having the models I wanted available for test drive..
Still waiting for a call back to say they have the diesel one.
He point blank said he didn't have the SLC 43 available.
Do these chimps not want to sell cars or do they just not want to sell them through Carwow with £10k discounts on them..
Any idea what going on here?
Has anybody had the same experience?
Please advise if possible.
Did have a look at a SLK55 AMG 2012 and its got my blood flowing again..!

I work for a Skoda dealer and I'm our Carwow rep. The dealer tells Carwow what discounts, as a percentage, they're prepared to do on any particular car and the site automatically works out the price.

The dealer may simply not have that particular car available to drive because they are clearly willing to discount the car, unless the automated system has messed up, which has happened to me before

Hi Kevfawcett,
thanks for the reply.
The car Im looking to drive is probably the main seller of that model. To say he doesn't have one in seems a bit suspicious to me.
I have just emailed him again and hes out of the office until next week..!

As someone who deals with this site then, can you, or are you willing to confirm that a dealer would rather sell a car through their showroom at higher price than to sell to someone heavily discounted through a web site?
This seems to me to be what is happening here and if that is the case I will just walk onto a forecourt elsewhere ,test the car Im thinking of and order through the website at the cheapest location.
Thanks Again

It depends on the pay structure but, the profit in the sale probably makes no difference to the sales exec. he'll more than likely get paid on units and products rather than profit.

If you go into another dealership, ask if they can match or get close to the figure you've been quoted, alot will and the lad who is spending his time test driving with you isn't completely wasting his time

Yeh I probably will do ta.
I have no wish to waste anybody's time which is why I went to the dealer who responded to carwow.
Its not the nearest one to me so I thought he may actually want to sell a car,
but hey ho....
I will still give him the chance to come back to me next week before I name and shame the dealers.
I have read on an MB Forum of others who have slated this dealership, not necessarily about carwow but servicing issues/not fulfilling their promise etc.
Thanks Again

I used carwow the other week to get a price on a new car and then just used that as leverage against the dealer I was already planning to go with. Seems like the best way to me unless you have a set in stone price and car ready to go via carwow.

To be honest I had heard of Carwow and thought I would see what its all about.
Initially I thought fantastic when I saw the savings. Up to 9k on what I specced.
This has now changed to suspicion and would really like to know if anyone has actually made this saving in reality?

I will try the local dealer now and see if he can match the savings for me .

I am not sure if the original carwow dealer expected me to place an order on a car I had not even driven. Which I am sure nobody in their right mind would do...surely...Perhaps the reduction in price takes away the need for customer service in his mind.
Spoiling the experience to be honest and hence why I was looking for positive feedback from others on here who may have had great service even using Carwow.

The standard of service shouldn't differ because of how much you're paying for a car, you'll still get the same customer service questionnaire

Ive been using car wow looking at the new Focus ST, got offered an ST3 for 23k instead of the 27k list price. A fair old saving, but as been said, are these like the amazing supermarket deals which aren't really a deal at all?

Im hoping the deals are real.
I just need to drive one before I can decide.
Its not asking too much is it...?

Should it matter where I test one so long as I actually by the brand from one of their dealers?

Well, sales staff work on commission so you are potentially going to waste an hour or 2 of his/her time. I don't know what you do for a living so can't compare, but I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate somebody doing that to you.
However, I am friends with a Carwow specialist at Sunderland Nissan that I can put you in contact with

Im not sure about the Nissan offer ,its an SLK im after, but thanks anyway.

I have enquired about an SLK 55 at another dealers. They got straight back to me with a video of the car, an offer to come and have a go in it and very polite at the same time.
Now that's customer service for you.
Its a bit of a travel but if the service is good then I will gladly go further to view a car.
Whilst there I will check out the Diesel and the new SLC models.
I am not out to waste anyone's time ,simply to buy a car...
If this dealer is as good as they seem then they will gladly relieve me of some cash one way or the other.
I do expect them to work for their money just as I do.
I have been in a customer service type business for the last 25 years so I know all about the customer is right and working to please them.
Surely car dealers cant be exempt from a bit of this?

Apologies, I quickly read through a few posts whilst at work was replying to ccsimpreza about the Nissan.

The bit about wasting time was in response to you saying "Should it matter where I test one so long as I actually by the brand from one of their dealers?"
If you go to one dealer/salesperson for a test drive knowing you are going to buy from another, that is wasting his/her time. Most sales people are prepared to work for their money, we don't earn money otherwise!

To me, it sounds like the 1st dealer you spoke to just aren't that good

I used Carwow prices as leverage against a new car purchase with employee discount and I was very happy with the outcome I ended up with. Basically the dealer I was already intending on going with beat everyone else's best price by quite a margin. I was very happy with what I ended up paying!

No idea about the mechanics of it but it helped me feel like I got a good outcome from what I could tell

I used Car.wow when buying my S3 saloon. I typed in my spec, and got the best prices from the bidding dealers.

I then went to my local Audi dealer, and presented the best price I got from Car.wow. 40 minutes later they matched it to within £100. But as I'd had their S3 on test drive all day, I did the deal. Best other price would have meant going to Coventry to collect.

The dealers all say "we can't match that price". They can. If one dealer can, they all can. Just call their bluff, and say "I don't mind going to xxxx" to pick up the car. After a while, they'll buckle.

Not true, we get extra money from the manufacturers for hitting targets, if we think we are going to hit target we can give some of that away. If not, then it could lose money, which no dealer would do

They quoted me a saving of about £9k on the SLC43 as well.
Quite happy to travel if its the best price available.

Got a test in a 12 plate SLK55 today so will see how it goes.
Will also try the SLC diesel whilst there if they have one in.
This is at another localish dealer who seem very keen on customer service.
The dealer did not have pictures of the SLK55 available but they went out and videoed the car and sent it straight to me .So I thought that was pretty good of them.

I have just emailed him again and hes out of the office until next week..!

As I expected the Cretin hasn't even phoned me back to arrange test drive...
Tommy from Bolton Mercedes.(the dealers Carwow specialist believe it or not)

On a positive note looked at another SLK55 on Sunday but one look under the bonnet and it put me off as it was a dirty mess (it had only just come in though to be fair to them and hadn't been fully valetted). Rest of car looked ok although thought it may have had some paint on rear corner of bumper.
Told them I would think about it.
Got call next day to say it had gone...ah well ,not to be then.
Although they have invited me back on Thursday to view the SLC 250 D I was also contemplating, although its going to be a bit short on oooomph I think now ...! Who knows. Will see what Thursday brings. There's always the SLC43 to try yet,,,!
I was on my way back from looking at another when they called on Monday and this one was very close to being bought. A few bits I needed sorting on it ,extra warranty etc but he wasn't for budging much on the price so im currently thinking about this one.

Kin Tommy ,the Carwow specialist my Ar$e.....

Well I tested the SLK55 on Sunday and it was fantastic.
Some cheeky bugger snatched it from me on Monday though....snooze u lose...
Sold to the next customer of the saleswoman...
Tried another 100 mile away on Monday...yep you guessed it... snoozed...found it was reserved today by another cheeky beggar...
Seems like they are going like hot cakes...

Anyway had a go in the 1800 petrol today, the 250 Diesel and finally the SLC43.
Verdict....petrol 1800 NO....
Diesel I was well impressed with to be honest and would quite happily have.
The SLC43 though sounded great ,went fantastic but....
Im still hankering after the big 5.5 Petrol SLK55 so im on the lookout stil and will move things a bit quicker on the next one.
I am not too disappointed at losing the first two as my mind was not quite made up without testing the diesel etc and they wernt quite spot on so hoping the next one is..

No - not quite in the position to buy yet.
I'm really leaning towards the RS3 as I'm struggling to get past the 4 pot in the A45 although it's not out of the question.
I specced the 45 as RS3's are not currently available new

Well I have emailed the clown at Bolton Mercedes to thank him for his help in my quest to purchase.
Told him I had now tried all the models.250 D ,the SLC43, etc.
His response was , "have you ordered one now?"

Er non of your business you firkin chimp. Too late to start showing an interest now you pr!ck.
Think he got the message as his next response was "out of the office" ....lol.
Anyway, found another SLK55 in my preferred colour. Made an offer subject to viewing on Friday. 9000 miles, FSH, 14 plate. Got everything I wanted except parking sensors , but hey ho , its near enough spot on , so hopefully will put down deposit on Friday.
Happy days...
