I can't remember how many were made, but it was not many, IIRC about half of what they originally planned. 0-60 was around 7.7 as they weighed 100kg or so more than a std puma. Cornering ability was supposed to be very good, although the suspension was very very hard.
I never could see the point of it, it was too slow for a 20K+ car, especially when you compared it to the stock 1.7 which was much, much cheaper. Not seen many for sale second hand, but those that were still seemed to be stupidly priced.

I echo Robertio's post.
The standard 1.7 Puma like my old one was much better value for money and you had plenty of cash spare for modifications.....especially if you got it for the price I did
Looks good, but not much to it.....

According to the Puma Owners club of which I am stil a member
There were 500 built, all were sold.
Differences to standard Puma were - aluminium front, "beefed up" LOL wheel arches, even wider front and rear tracks with 17" spoke alloys.
Power was uprated to 153bhp and super stiff springs provided.
All very technical information but it is from the member's edition book which I got through the post a while back

I had a go in one, it was very good. No where near in Impreza league but a very good fun drivers car. Stiffened body shell, wider track and a bit more power over std Puma. Very much in Integra Type R mold, not as powerful but similar handling.
If it was £17/18k it would have been a hit, but at £23k it was a farce, and less than half of the 500 road cars were sold, most unsold cars were turned into F1600 puma rally cars on which they were based in the first place.
If you can find one at Puma +10% money - it's a worthy consideration.

Not worth £23K maybe...
But now available for around £12-13K used, and falling..
I seriously considered buying one (now decided not to) but still like 'em. One of the bonniest looking cars on the road IMO.

When you actually see it on the road, it isn't really that distinguishable from a std puma. It should be, the arches are as wide (comparatively) as a 22b over Sti, but the Pumas are just too smooth so it isn't really that noticable

I've seen them for £12k, and for that money they're fantastic. Handle waaaaay better than a scooby. Sorry guys, but understeer just isn't in its vocabulary. Almost got one myself, but at 6'3, it aint an option. Damn Ford and their small engineers! Every company should have a director like TVR's Peter Wheeler, 6'6 and designs all his cars to fit him. Genius!

Youd be better with a late model Integra R with about 10k miles for that money
IMHO
Faster, brilliant handling, fantastic (NSX) brakes, honda build and reliability and THAT engine

GaryC: Non of the cars were turned into F1600 rally cars and non of them were unsold. The FRP and F1600 share very little parts, only the brakes are the same.

Anyone who thinks just because the straight line speed is slower then the car is crap needs to go in one. Best way to describe one is a go cart but with better handling, anyone who doesnt believe this should try and race one, myself and yoza both know this. On a straight the puma doesnt stand a chance but with the brakes and the suspension on a series of corners theres no comparison. Cheers Ad (MY 99 UK TURBO)

Pads are 43 quid including VAT, doesn't seem too bad to me.
