Troubled transit
My works transit van went in for a service a couple of weeks ago ( 10 plate ford transit with 178k miles ) , also brake light on. Please note that I'm not a mechanic and have very little knowledge but I due love fast cars and bikes.
Picked the van up a day or so later from works yard, brake light still on, took van bk for them to sort and stamp service book. Done a few jobs during the day, taking it easy as was relatively quiet, noise from the engine, followed by a knocking noise. Van got towed back
To garage. Something to due with a rocker bolt snapping, repair carried out. £1600
Picked up van this week, got on the motorway loss of power. Pulled over, a hose had blown off to air cooler, sorted out myself when got home.
Following morning local to our yard, problems with gears not changing correctly. Also noticed hose clips not connected
Properly and a wire by the fuel filter just hanging loose. Back to the garage same morning. Gear selector shaft gone £300.
Got van back this afternoon hope nothing else goes wrong with it.

Check the pedal switch, easy enough to see if you look up from the pedals. There's a switch that holds the brake lights off by the pedal in rest position. The switch may have come out and be open all the time, or it's failed.
Dangling wire is usually just where the fuel filter has been changed and they've not used the original water sensor in the bottom, not really an issue.

Does indeed.
I saw a transit the other day. The lad that owned it was a cowboy's wet dream. He contacted me asking if I could fit a fuel pump for him after a garage had told him it needed one, but I wasn't able to help at the time due to other commitments. He took it to the garage to fix. They fitted a fuel pump and he got it back hardly running. Then they had it back and told him the keys needed recoding. He got it back again and it died yet again. When I saw the van it was parked up at his work and all the steering cowling was off, wiring all hanging everywhere. I asked why and he just said, they towed it back like it and had given up with it. He'd spent over a grand with them and then just bought another van instead. He wouldn't say boo to a goose and they knew it.

Well the hose blowing off and pipes not being clipped is a garage issue, more care and attention and a good test drive should have highlighted these issues.
If the top end of the engine has been apart to fix the rocker, then alot of stuff will have been removed to do this. Sometimes the quick-connect type hoses can be a bit temperamental once they've been messed with.
The gear selector sounds like wear and tear. Yes I've jumped in the odd knackered Transit to find out later it has no reverse gear (linkage)....when I'm half way across the road....doh!
I think as a matter of course its what you get with a well used van...We look after a fleet of Scudos which need constant remedial work carried out on them every on single service (thats if they don't turn up on the back of a recovery truck beforehand); your issues sound trivial compared to these. Ironically the best Scudo in the fleet (to drive) has over 230K on it. But thats mainly because it had the most money spent on it to keep it on the road - its the van equivalent of Trigger's Broom!

Got 10 plate van bk. lack of power and a noise when accelerating. Van got booked in about a wk or 2 ago to a different garage. Timing out by 2 teeth and something else to do with gearbox. My m8 had it bk Friday, went to work 2day still a noise when accelerating and lack of power. Left the job 2day, van sounding ****, tapping noise. 20 mins later engine gave way. Living the dream
