Default Beat track day coupe for wife to ise as a daily drive?

I have got up to 6k to spend on a small coupe four seater to use on the track but also for the Mrs to drive as a daily.

Any suggestions? I was going to buy an MX5 mark 2.5 model but my wife wants four seats even if the rear seats are small. Rear wheel drive would be fun

My choice would be mx5 or s2000

Or maybe brz/gt85

Rhanks for suggestions. It has to have rear seats even if only small space due to baby seat in front or rear and mother in law.

Rear wheel drive essential for aome fun.

Any mercedes?. Within 6 grand mark....

What's a calibra? Need to look it up..

Would you really buy a rx8 for your missus though? With it on your mind it might break down and leave her in a position or danger? For me yes I couldn't care but for the wife, no.
But that's just me, and she'll be winning about fuel all the time, along with stalling it as she won't Rev it enough lol.
But it's your choice and it does tick all the boxes if you're prepaired for all that,

Tbh, the brz/gt85 has good deals on via Toyota, good car for all cenarios.

The OP has up to 6K to spend and an RX-8 is a much better car to drive than a BRZ/GT86 in my opinion. You can get one with a recent rebuild for about 3K which will be reliable enough, not much you can do about the thirst though but that's why they cost buttons.

Not many calibras left but they are cheap which will leave you enough money for decent suspension/brakes and tires

DC2 Integra Type R.

4 seats. Check.
Track capable. Check.
Daily Capable. Check.
Change from £6k. Check.
Reliable. Check.

It'll **** an EP3 Type R in the right hands too. I know. I have an EP3 and wasn't able to get close to one around Bedford.

I will accept the fuel economy is crap, but why is it going to breakdown or stall anymore than any other car? Have you actually owned one?

I can't think of anything better that matches the wanted description for the money frankly!

DC5s are getting cheaper but I'd rather have the best vfm DC2 over a nail of a DC5.

UK specs look nicer. Jap Specs are a smidge quicker. A DC2 will be on my drive next year for sure. I've said to myself that and the S2000 are on the car bucket list.

There a video somewhere on you tube of a standard RX8 bothering an M5 on track somewhere - it's not all about power.

The MK4 Astra Coupe would be a better choice for the money. 2.2 N/A or 2.0 Turbo.

Had two. One standard one and the 3.0 V6 converted one I have now. I'm storing it until I can be bothered with it again. Too much fun with high-revving Jap reliability

How about an E36 M3?

Fast, reliable, good fun on track (good aftermarket kit available too) and will do the mundane daily duties too... downside is, they're starting to go up in price for minters and you may need to spend a bit of cash on cosmetic repairs to keep it looking good now that they're knocking on in age.

Whether this is a real danger or not, that's exactly the reasons I'd not have an RX8 either... one of my friends had one, bought it for 8k from a dealer, then a year later had to almost give it away for 2k despite only putting about 5k miles on it and it still being absolutely mint.

Great shout. One of the most rewarding cars that I've owned.. don't look a 'new' as some other options, but you should love it on track and it'll be a fairly easy car to live with as a daily drive too. Only 'downside' for you is, that it's FWD rather than RWD.

Cheers,
Grant

And that's exactly why if you can live with the economy the RX8 is the bargain of the century.

Less than £2k buys you a mint car, get the motor rebuilt by a specialist (£2250 - tow in - drive out) and provided you look after it will give you many, many years of reliable motoring.

Just because it doesn't have pistons, people slate them. Most engine failures were caused by incorrect maintenance, bad coils, cats etc. There are tens of thousands of cars driving round with 100k plus on them with no issues whatsoever.

Funny that M3's have been mentioned a few times as i have a chance to buy a 51plate M3 E46 SMG II Paddle shift box for..........6 grand. 49,000 miles.

Sounds like a bargain yes! Well, yes and no. This is where i need some help.
I am well read on the M3Cutters forum so know of the main failures to expect and to look out for, but what is giving me cold feet is that the car has not been used much in the last 4 years. Only about 7k miles and has sat for the last 12 months without any use at all.
New battery added,
MOT scheduled on January
Error code 59 at present which is a clutch positioning sensor on the SMG box.
All of this to be paid for by selller.
My main concern is the times it has sat for over the last several years and the amount of electrical engineering involved with this model car and the liklely hood that there will be problems.

Blumming 'ell RX8's are flipping cheap. It does tick all the boxes perfectly.

So why so cheap?. What are main problems.
