Anyone had a 120d m sport?
Any kind of horror story's with them....2010 m sport coupe , full history but previous owner must of liked going the long way home 85k but with full history.
It will be for the missis and it will be her daily drive so can do without things cropping up

 

Had one as my daily since January. Wasn't looking at one in particular. Went to dealer as had a couple of hours to spare and put deposit on it next day after test drive. Really impressed! Good mpg (compared to the Impreza) averaging 39 - no motorways involved so would probably get more on longer run. Comfortable too!

 

Cheers buddy , I read they are a lucky dip with timing chains ...conflicting posts though, some say 2007-2009 others say 2007-2011

 

To be honest I didn't really do any homework on it - liked it and bought it I guess! Have bought many cars privately and been stung so decided to go with a bmw dealer with 12 month warranty for peace of mind. If anything goes wrong, as long as not down to general wear and tear I hope it'll be covered. Mines a 2010 hatch model with only 24k so only just run in!

 

Anyone else before she finishes work .
Only issue I can find is the chains snapping

 

Do you have kids? A friend of mine sold his wife's and bought a golf because it was to small, had trouble with putting the buggy in the boot etc.

 

Ours is tight for rear passengers but the boot is quite a good size. It's the newer shape though.

I had a 120d M Sport in the old shape as a loan car; it was pretty nippy.

 

2 kids , 1@13 and 1@5.
Very rare it's all 4 of us out together.
Tbh I sold her tt last weekend because there was no room in it , I'm going to go view it later and hopefully she will see the negatives herself

Speaking as someone who is not a big fan of german cars I would love a 335.

 

I had a 330d m sport. Standard bmw thing to check is noisey alternator is a sign of bearing failure. Also if she does short journeys you may run into dpf issues further down the line.

 

My 335d touring was great; get one!

 

Just a after thought, would it be fair to say that BMW are leading the way in terms of big/performance diesels?

 

My wife drives a 2005/2006 one, we've done 18k miles in the last 18 months, the car has been faultless (touches wood). We've had the swirl flaps removed for peace for mind but I don't think it was necessary as it was earlier 3 series ones that used to fail and it was probably a scare tactic from the specialist to cash in.

The tank's breather pipe wears out with time (as it passes through a chassis hole) and starts to leak when you fill the tank to the brim.
£200 to fix (parts and labour) from a BMW specialist.

The front left wheel bearing has started to be noisy but at 92k I think it's lasted well.

 

About 3 weeks ago I bought a 57 plate 330d coupe. To be fair, the legroom in the back is very good. Averaging about 37-41mpg mixed motorway/town driving and it goes like stink. Was looking at m-sport variants but the runflats give a harsh enough ride anyway.

Odd 4th gear squirt @ 3000rpm on the motorway helps regenerate the DPF and the EGR valve is easy enough to remove/clean.

I'm just sorting a warranty out as a mate is head tech at a local dealers and knows how to 'word' successful claims (if needed ofcourse) through.

One thing though, try use genuine BMW parts. Recently had a brake warning light and it ended up being non-genuine sensors throwing it up. Genuine sensors plus reset and job done.
