Cool NBO feedback thread

Hi guys I would just like to say a BIG thanks for supporting the NBO in the eight year
I think it was the best one yet
We listened and looked at club structure and decided the way forward was larger club displays and smaller space in the middle for the independents
It's great to see the independents reduce every year as they see the advantages of joining a group

We do work on an shoestring budget so no point in Saying suggesting track days as they are too expensive the NBO is unique for a quality show and all proceeds to charity causes
Traders we have tried for 8 years
Maybe we are too cheap £ 50
Keys Points for comments
Car classes bear in mind tight time schedule
Club comp very successful this year
Extra custom cars on show
Cs babes looked great and helped raise lots of money
Parking
Size of club stands
Layout of field
Donation £7 minimum about right ?
Pa system ?
Arena size ?
Facebook page
Timing of event ?
Let's rip guys
I've got a thick skin but by feedback we can only improve !
You can also pm me if it's a really strong one
Thanks and we will see you all at NBO 9 same weekend next year

Very good suggestions
Lots of mileage in them
After the NBO 10 concept ends there is so much we can develop in years 10-20 and with new things coming through the whole concept looks good even after my retirement in five years time

was a good day
i loved the evo's there very pretty
i didnt think that the ICE comp was very fair if im honest
i dont think that proffesional installs or business's should be allowed to compete
and how about a class for cars over 125k ?
just a suggestion

John

PA System was the best in 5 years of attending, could be heard right round the field.

It might just be rose tinted glasses, but, the number of traders was down again.

It's been said before, and I know your hands are tied on this by LWV, but the refreshment stands really do take the **** with their pricing. £1.50 for a cup of tea or a bottle of water really is having a joke.

Didn't pay much attention to the show and shine, it was probably rushed due to the football being on.

Also, attendances may have been higher if the NBO hadn't clashed with other events; Time Attack, Grand Prix, aforementioned World Cup, crikey..sad gits will have even stayed in to watch tennis.

The only problem is, I know you'll be having to book the field round about now, so clashes are unfortunately inevitable.

We were soooooooo happy with third place in the club stand comp , made running a club and being part of somthing so great so very worth while........

Well done to West Mid scoobies for second place and s.s.c for a well deserved first place .....

Hi John, fantastic result for us, 5 months old, our 1st big show, and such a shock, but thanks to everyone that helped out.

A couple of issues that i heard around the ground was the arena competitions... best modified cars and best sound install, comments were along the lines of why are company show vehicles aloud to compete against everyday driving cars? Main one being the sound off comp when the NON subaru entered (bright orange i.c.e car) which clearly had thousands spent on it. It clearly won on looks NOT sound.

Another one has been mentioned and that is the lack of trade stands, also the prices that the caterers were charging, ridiculous prices, thank god we took our own food.

On the plus side, what a brilliant day that we all had, and can only salute you for all your hard work. From all at S.S.C-SimplySubaruClub thank you, see you next year... hopefully.

Was a good day. I thought the display of the cars with Football players plates on was fantastic and well thought out.

My only suggestions would be:

Camping night before?
Toilets - was a fair way to walk to the loo's with a weak bladder and a child
£7 is a good fee. affordable enough for people to chuck a tenner in, but not too much to put people off from going.
Evo's there is a good thing.
Possibility of some activities such as mechanical bull riding/tug of war/gladiator games - all cheap to arrange but fun. Maybe some for the kids to get involved in.

This is our second year (last year came on evo stand so keep em coming) and weather's been great so fingers crossed next year will be.

Keep up the good work.

Donation £7 minimum about right ? Yes, I think it's fair and events where it's not a per person fee attracts more families. If the fees were higher people would probably spend less on raffle tickets etc
Pa system ? Couldn't hear anything from where we were at the bottom when it was just talking/drawing prizes etc, know a few didn't appreciate the kareoke feature
Arena size ? Not much can be changed really
Facebook page? Some don't use it
Timing of event ? Could have planned better this year with world cup as they're released quite early & people didn't want to pay into LWV just to use the pub, but if the event is to stay the same dates each year (well same last weekend in June) it wouldn't have been changed anyway.

Prices from catering vans wasn't such an issue for us as we had our own but heard many complain as we were right next to some of them. I think they noticed with the lack of custom something wasn't right.

Clubs could do with seeing the score lists so they can see where scores were awarded. Noone can improve if they don't know where it's seen as needed

Agreed totally with the ICE section, we didn't enter ours as soon as we were made aware traders were entering display cars. No point. Never known there not to be a seperate section for traders and there was no clarity on what was being judged.

Another mentioned (not by me but hasn't been mentioned so far) lack of classes for non impreza.....not my bug but someone elses

We had a belting day, really proud of the work that the people from www.nesf.co.uk put into their cars as they all looked great. Thanks to those who came over praising them for that, our first NBO and we brought 35 cars so we were very pleased being a club that's been going for a few months.

Agreed with loos, seen many running down the hill with toddlers trying to make it and there was a huge queue on the morning when LWV customers were using them, maybe a porta loo or 2 ?

Really enjoyed it this year as apart from the good weather (first time I've gone home sunburnt) it seemed quite relaxed. Fair play we didn't play a part in organising the stand we were on, but it seemed for once the focus wasn't put on necessarily winning, but enjoying the day and doing our own thing to some extent. To my mind, there is nothing wrong with making a good club stand, but the people on it need to feel free to roam and enjoy the day which it seemed we were (at least from my pov)

I think the entry is about right, much more and it may possibly put people off as most probably pay out in other ways during the day, plus money is tight for alot of people and we all know petrol isn't all that cheap for us to get there.

The refreshment issue, obviously we aren't the only people to think it's too pricey... A possible thought, no way would club stands be able to offer all that the refreshment stands do (so hopefully wouldn't put them out too much) but maybe clubs could take some drinks at least with them and keep chilled and sell them with profits raised either going to the NBO charity or if a stand has a chosen charity then it goes to that. It's not really workable selling food, but drinks, possibly (depending on if the club can initally afford to pull out). Depending on how that could be organised, it could create some more club to club interaction.

I'm no huge lover of children, but as a thought, would it not be worth hiring a bouncy castle or something? Or better still asking around to see if somewhere would be willing to donate that for a day. There are plenty of people who will support charities, possibly get them some local publicity? Kids need entertained and not everyone will want to go into LWV.

Traders did seem down again. What is worth considering is, do they make much from coming? If not, that will put them off as effort doesn't match return. Nobody can do anything about that if that is the case, I don't know how many traders are contacted, the same ones each year? It does seem like every event we have gone to over the last couple of years or so, traders have gone down in numbers so this isn't necessarily restricted to the NBO.

Sorry to have gone on and I am trying to think of more ideas (my ones so far might not have been good, but I am trying). Need sleep, maybe something will come to me in a dream.

One thing I'll pick up on from lil me is about the traders entering the show and shine, regardless of category. It's obviously irritated people and maybe it's worth considering having a separate caegory for them. Not broken down into specialist areas for time reasons, just a 'traders display'. Judged based on what is deemed the best car of said class all round.

It must (and obviously does) get people's backs up when cars come into normal classes that are built up by companies, obviously they have a greater chance of winning with a huge amount of money being spent on them as opposed to everyday cars. Plus you don't want it to go the other way and dismiss them based on that, as that will put them off (possibly from even coming). Maybe such a class if advertised widely enough could draw more in

Many traders would have also been at the Time Attack event which was on the same weekend, not something NBO can really compete with when it comes to motorsport exposure for them. Other thing that puts smaller traders off especially is fees for pitches, unsure how NBO works it but donations sometimes work better as when people are allowed to be, they can be generous

Agreed with something for littlies to do, mine probably wouldn't use it being older but discouraging a little one from bouncing a football off our cars wasn't the highlight of my day

Great day Lordy as always, felt a little miffed at the Audio comp though especially when the Judge didn't even want me to talk through my install, it's not like there was a million cars to Judge and he was strapped for time

I was thinking of bringing a wheely bin full of scrap metal next year, if all the Judges are looking for is loads of Plastic and Chrome bits

On a serious note The winners car Looked pretty average for a 'drive in spends loads of money and let someone build it for you' show car but it did sound pretty Halfords Carpark'ish, there is more to a HI-FI install than Bling, Plastic, Chrome and Fibreglass, try letting your ears do some Judging too
And please judges try and take more of an interest in what is actually fitted and the massive amount of work some of us put in trying to Actually hide and make the huge amount of Audio kit fitted subtle

Hi Bud take a look through the pictures that Andy aka Weasel from http://tyneteesscoobies.co.uk/forums/index.php as posted in this section, that will give you a pretty fair representation of what the day was like.

Great comments guys keep them coming and some new ones this year
Traders we charge only £50 and I've kept it at that level for 8 years to attract new ones and retain existing ones who most have been with us since the beginning maybe we should charge £1500 +vat as most shows seem to charge that but I believe in value for money and volumne buisness
We have wrote to aprox 100 suppliers emailed and hounded them and a different aproach this year and worst it's ever been I'm so desperate I would do a try it and if you take £100 give us fifty we so keen to take traders as we are well established and people have money in pocket to spend

Toilets are lv I will ask the question about if they could put up portaloo but if NBO had to pay then it's a no goer as experience of hiring toilets at £100 a unit it's just not worth it as I'd rather put it in the charity bucket

Refreshments we have no control over what's so ever as lv have an agreement with a local contractor infact I've Been very lucky lv have not banned us from having BBQ etc on the field as there is very strict t&c with the hire of the field
Bouncy castle is a no no as lv have a kids play area also tug of war etc well insurance costs as we have to itemise the exact nature of the event any extras would possibly double the insurance
Generally we only have a budget of £1200 -1300 so all costs have to be looked at , more traders we could do more but we do well on little revenue coming in

Hifi install yes agree I was unaware of that untill after it happened
So that WILL be dealt with !

Yes a trader would make an absolute fortune
West coast who did it have disapeared and another 2 traders have pulled out of clothing so there is a fortune to be made from that for someone out there

Event booking because we get a special charity rate there is only about four dates we can have it on as priority goes to full payers and there is only may -sept really so haven't much choice in that but moving from fathers day to last week in June has worked well for us
Also July / aug is most peoples two weeks away

Time attack I would like feedback on that from anyone who went turnout , traders there although it is a different part of the uk , how many would of went if NBO had not been on ?

Food best advice fetch your own untill lv says NO

maybe you could have a car boot sale section on the field and raise some more money for charity!! the trade section is very poor it just seems to get less & less each year, also i agree with all the listed comments above.
