The AA/RAC have replied by saying if not sure drive to the nearest Police Station. This is what Royal Mail vans are supposed to do for security.

Four young men were ordered to get out of the car by the bogus cops and told to stand against a wall and hand over the keys to the vehicle.
, then I would certainly demand to see his i.d. before doing anything, and if even remotely suspicious, I'd be off to the nearest police station like a shot. Sounds like these 4 young men were an easy target.
Like the way the police are chasing it up as an attempted theft, not as someone impersonating an officer, which would carry a bigger sentence
