SMACS to the evo triangle again :)
It's that time of year again, and the smacs made thier annual pilgrimage to the land of the red dragon.
Saturday and Sunday 25/26th september, had myself, supertouring, andy_s and steelx (with daughter in co-pilots seat ) having some fun on the fantastic roads around North Wales.
The route over, organised by the ever efficient supertouring, was his best to date, well done m8 , with a mixture of Motorway , very fast A roads, roadworks, caravans, artic lorries, and some awesome B roads at the end.
Karl555dbm came along on saturday too, just to join in the fun. Nice to see you again m8, that car of yours is a little rocket ship, and gave steelx a run for his money in his WR1!
After meeting up, we headed over to Bala for the first "full cooked english" meal of the weekend. Once we'd all payed and displayed, it was time for some nosh
Now we were all full, time to get a move on to what we came here for, the infamous EVO TRIANGLE. If you've never done it, go find it, and have a blast. The bottom bit of the triangle is frankly a bit boring, as it's just a busy A road, but the two sides are fantastic roads. Both very fast, with lots of twisties, very light traffic, and only the occasional local pulling out on you while you go past @ ?? mph! (ask andy_s about that one)
Time for a pit stop at the top of the triangle.
After blasting past me while I did some filming of the boys going past, they decided it would be a good idea to go get petrol, without actually telling me! So after sitting on the moors for about 45mins, waiting for them, I finally decided to head off and find them. Eventually we met up again at the top, and decided to head over to our stop for the evening in Llanberis. Once again, a top route by supertouring had us up and down, round and over some of the best roads the North of Wales has to offer, eventually going up Llanberis pass, and finally to the hotel.
Once freshened up, it was off into the party town of Llanberis for some tea. No food at the curry house till 21:30, and as it was only 19:30, we weren't going to wait that long, so it was down the road to "sams cafe" for a greasy spoon mixed grill, which looked very much like our "full english breakfast" from that morning, except it had a burger with it
Group photo:
Clockwise from near left: andy_s, steelx, steelx's daughter louren (sp?), supertouring, and me
After all that driving, we were all knackered, so an early night was in order, with the party breaking up after a few bevvies around 22:30, bunch of old fogies we are
Sunday dawned all misty and wet, which was just inside the hotel, as it was like a sauna!
Once outside though, the weather improved quite quickly, from a damp start, to a lovely sunny day. I took the oppurtunity early on to go for a quick run on my own, without steelx up my tailpile for a change and had a nice go up Llanberis pass and a small loop back to the hotel. After breakfast, yep, you guessed it "full english" again, we all headed off for our final run around. After a brief stop for a proper group photo:
My idea was to navigate using my tom tom software to a certain road I'd found which looked interesting. Tom tom on the other hand had other ideas and we found ourselves on the narrowist singletrack "road" that Wales has got, with gates, sheep on the road, grumpy locals and cars trying to come the other way! After that foray into the unknown, it was back onto the top roads we came for.
Andy_s had to leave early for a wedding, so at Bala, we waved our goodbyes and carried on back the way we came in, losing steelx in the process as he shot off ahead as usual with no idea where he was going
Eventually we regrouped in Oswestry, and headed up past Wrexam, splitting off our seperate ways once into Cheshire. I got tangled up in road works in Crewe, supertouring followed his sat nav to the M6, and steelx probably got home in time for dinner
All in all, a top weekend, fantastic roads, great Welsh drivers letting us by, and not a Policeman in site with a speed gun
Roll on the next one.
chris.
ps, big thanks to supertouring for the route, andy_s for the back end action (oh er!), steelx for his awesome WR1 and loren for calling out hazards and oncoming vehicles.

Another cracking weekend, if a little lacking in numbers. Thanks to Carl for coming along and providing much of the ideal routing info. I would like to say it was all my own work, but it was not.
Most memorable bits:
- that fried bread in the Old School House cafe in Bala. Nearly as good a the ones my mum used to make.
- watching Steel through traffic in the WR1. An increadibly quick car (and driver!).
- CW42's refering to his driving with "gay abandon"! Pink fluffy bonnet on order.
- B16 WAG (or whatever you plate was) in a 928 on the M6 on the way home. i joined the motorway at speed and left you for dead mate. Cheap Jap rubbish
And big appologies to Lauren, who spent an entire evening listening to us discussing tyres pressures, overtaking etiquete and torque settings for lower flange sprockets. What gentlemen we are!
Till next year.

Gutted I couldnt make it after my "incident" at Harewood or I wouldve been there. Surprised to see only four cars go after last year which was a fantastic run-out. Hopefully more people will make it next time as this sounds like it was an even better weekend.
Looking forward to seeing the video footage.
LOL at Chris and his gay abandon, whatever next.

Superb run on the Saturday for me – Many thanks for allowing me to join in on your annual trip. By your comments Chris – I trust I didn’t hold you up any!!!
Top moments for me:
- Nearly getting wiped out by 30 odd S2000’s on the way to meet you (Oh, and the one with the pink fluffy bonnet – I kid you not !!!!)
- The Red-bull stop (nice photo above)
- Trying to keep up with Steel !!
- Lauren’s excellent road calls (That was just about every sheep along the way – luverly!!)
Great stuff – same time next year? I’m sure we’ll meet up way before that !!
Thanks again – Carl.

Gav, that road is the Llanberis pass - full of sheep and walkers! We actually stayed in Llanberis on the sat night.
We did many of the roads from last time, plus one or two new ones which have quickly become favourites. I think we made a mistake on the Sunday by not have a full route sorted out, so that will be taken care of for next time.
Need more cars out next year in a hope to slow Steel and CW down at the front. Not having much grunt in the old WRX made opportunist overtaking moves a little more difficult, so was often left some way back!
Till next year.

Cracking weekend.
Got the chance on Sunday to stretch the legs of the WR1 and it only twitched once!
Memorable Moments?
- Andy with shot rear suspension. Your mad m8. Absolutley bonkers. :-)
- The motorbikes that were owned
- Cw42 and Carl having "keep up with the WR1" classic's. Awesome speed guys.
- Cw42 for getting in my way and having to be despatched to the rear view...
- The sheep.
- Being airborne (many times).
- Nearly going straight on instead of right.
- Going straight on instead of right.
- The Toyota Land Cruiser we overtook 5 (FIVE!) times on Sunday and then it pulled into the Shell garage in Oswestry 30 mins after we did.
And thanks to all those people who waved fingers, beeped horns, flashed lights and generally gave me abuse. I luv ya!
Route was awesome.

videos will be up sometime this week, got to edit it all first. I've got at least an hours worth.
I'll post up the shots of me and steelx tearing off from the first set of roadworks, and my amazement that I'm keeping up with him
keep watching this space,
chris.

Hmm not that I'm aware of:
kit car status - incomplete
Suspension - incomplete
DVD - incomplete
House - probably incomplete based on other projects
I'm sure there are others Mrs Pete could enlighten us on...
