Default Anyone live in/near York?

How do you stand driving in the place?

For a city that sets itself up to have tourist attarctions, it's dismal.

Drove over tonight, around 18:30, the last FOUR MILES took me THIRTY-EIGHT minutes.

I think I'll give the place a miss from now on.

In via the A19, up the Fulford Road and right onto Cemetery Road.

EVERY set of lights is S L O W and had queues waiting. I started queueing two miles before that Outlet Centre

That's chocka at the best of times. To be honest your time would have been better spent having a drive over Skipton way. The route to Horton in Ribblesdale is absolutely stunning.

Makes me think of Trout, because I think he lives inside or around York. He can't answer as he voluntarily banned himself from here.

Yes, beautiful place, but nightmare to drive into.

Hello Dunx I wouldn't have bothered with the York jaunt. Instead I would have had a drive to H-in-R stopped off at pub. Then enjoyed the scenery on the way back. Granted there's no shopping centre but I despise shopping and shopping centres. :-D

I went to pick up a nearly new bike I bought off ebay for a friend's little boy's birthday. It came complete with nearly new helmet.

Started queueing about a mile south of Crockey Hill for the lights there....which kept going to red EVEN THOUGH NOTHING CAME OUT OF THE SIDE ROAD!!!.

Then it was roundabouts and lights with endless queues all the way to the Cemetery Road turn off. Awful.

And to compound it, the ******** I bought the bike off took over ten minutes to answer his door. Kids kept looking out of the windows, but no-one came.

I work there on the Uni campus. Very rarely go in to the city centre for the reason you state above. The council is very anti-car, read about the Lendal Bridge closure as a prime example. Car parking is expensive, and the park and ride systems are poor and don't service the area I work in.

Our office accommodates about ~200 people, but due to the council planning restrictions, it was, like many around it, only allowed to have a very limited number of parking spaces. The reason the council give is because you can cycle in or use the bus, but what they don't seem to get is that many people don't actually live in York. Que massive parking problems.

Ideally the inner city ring road would be made one way and the traffic lights would be set up to aid traffic flow rather than inhibit it.

I drive home down the A19 and noticed the tail back to Crockey last night. Rumour has it that the traffic lights are set like that because of where one of the councillors happens to live.

The A64 is a joke, all the West Yorkshie-ites head to the coast for fish and chips if the sun comes out.... if it were "Down South" it would have been upgraded to a dual carriageway decades ago....

Maz "we" blokes all hate shopping, but have to recommend The Farmers Arms in Muker. just south of Tan Hill pub...

Same thing done here, twice, for councillors.

Lights put in stupid places to help them get home quicker, or get to work quicker.

NEITHER needed, and BOTH impede the traffic flow.
