Cruising on the motorway yesterday I spotted a police car approaching rapidly, flashing lights 'an all. I moved over and he came past at the speed of light.

Out of foolish curiosity, I dropped into 4th to get an idea of his speed. I reached 125mph and he was still pulling away. Volvo estate thing. I guess his Sunday lunch was getting cold

Bang out of order the Police behaving like that. Did some one mention abuse of powers. Oooo it makes my blood boil (sits down and gets on with his job again!)

Sorry chaps, but why is this an abuse of power and why is it out of order. Most coppers spend all their time helping people. Maybe he was going to a crash to help someone. If you were stuck in a burning wreck I'm sure you'd want them to stick to the speed limit.

Lets not start the "i hate the pigs" thread again, it's soooooo tiresome.

You wouldn't need to drop a gear when we've sorted your car Richard But that is not the point I know. Don't know about quite reaching your magic 300lbft at 3000 RPM in this hot weather, but it will go

Unhappy

So if you just called them because someone was breaking into your house you would be moaning they took ages getting there?!!?

Confused..... and cannot understand why everyone is slagging them off?

Cool

I wondered what I left trailing in my wake. I thought someone had fairy lights on their car.

He of course has the benefit of a second observer (someone to hold his pasty/coffee/mobile phone) and the best part of six weeks plus full time driver training!

IanA, actually it's more like 10 weeks, including all the courses before you start on the advanced course. please remember that driving fast, or even very fast, is not the job, only the means of getting to the job!

I was wondering about this too? They were driving fast and they had the blues and twos on. Is this not normal practice when police are attending an emergency?

The only point I was trying to make is this proves that speed does not kill.

Inappropriate speed does kill, but this particular stretch of road is incredibly fast. It's the same section that Max Power got a 1,000bhp Supra to do 196mph.

Griff, your comment is the same for me, the speed is a means to an end, although fast is relative in my case as 90 in an 11 tonne truck is quite fast enough, thank-you.

But is the point not about the Police but the lack of the govenment to be able to put a proper reason together for road safety , so they come out with "Speed kills". The ads and a like do not allow for other factors such as advanced training etc. Would the advert where the kid gets knocked over be allowed if it was a police car instead of an old motor that cannot stop with the aids of abs etc. So for this point yes the police are right doing that speed the govenment are just looking for ways to condone ripping money out of people.

Training or no training, the police drivers are no different to any of us, in fact I bet there are better drivers on here but 130 + on what sounds like a busy motorway is too fast, I don't care how many eyes are looking out for the dimwit pulling out in front, police cars don't stop any quicker than owt else!

A police car cannot stop any quicker than a normal T5 and when some muppet pulls out from the middle lane at 70mph without checking their mirrors for fast moving flashing blurs.........
