The Polar Vortex which has hit the US modifies the Gulf Stream to such an extent that the UK will see the very same freezing temperatures ... add that to the warm front of rain coming up from the south and the UK will be a blanket of very heavy snow.

This takes on average 4 weeks, plus or minus 2 days either way, to cross the Atlantic via the Polar Ice Cap.

It's pretty certain it will happen between 10th and 14th February.

Bet it only rains as usual, all this doom and gloom and I am yet to see a snowflake, the only white stuff I have seen lying on the ground this year has been hailstones.

Hmm my summer tyres are down to 2mm and are five years old so the rubber had hardened a fair bit.

Maybe a fresh set of pliable tyres is called for soon.

Not winters- don't intend to keep the car much longer. And summer tyres are cheap ATM

The heavy snow is on its way.

Freezing weather later this week and into next week will highten the risk.

The beginning of February is shaping up to be the time winter finally arrives with deep snow and the usual chaos .......

You'd better put the heating on Pete, you old folk need to be careful.

Please wrap up!

The MetOfice find it difficult to predict for the next day, let alone five days in advance!

You're safer just driving carefully and slowly. Unlike half of SN who, thinking because they have £500 a corner winter tyres on, a survival kit in their car, a satellite phone, enough food and water to survive the apocalypse, they can still drive everywhere flat out with impunity.

Yeah, make a 'bold prediction' that it will snow during the winter. Take credit when it does.

The only two things wrong here are:-
1) there is no such thing as a 'long range weather forecast expert' (op)
2) post #10 - weather doesn't come via the polar ice cap, it moves west - east, much further south, and quicker than 4 weeks.

You're right they are crappy in snow. IF it snows the Corsa diseasel on winter tyres will be doing its duty. My Impreza (on GY F1Assys) will be going nowhere literally.
