Default Storm Damage

Went for a bit of a run to see, from a safe distance, what the Storm had managed to do here in Anglesey. It seems for the most part that we got away pretty lightly.

The village of Trearddur Bay was flooded in places and the promenade and sea wall has taken a thumping, equally some of the sand dunes and the board walk at Newborough have been washed away but besides that all seems fine.

We're lucky as we're up on a relatively big hill but the wind at Cable Bay was so strong it was difficult to walk and breathe.

I hope everyone else has managed to avoid any real damage.

Polzeath got hammered - two shops with busted walls, the lifeguard hut roof got half torn off, etc.

If you look here http://news.sky.com and click on "weather causes widespread damage" (RH side), the clip of the red van getting battered is here!

My mate took that video! He got ribbed for just being there. Apparently the van stuck behind some cars that had stopped and then got caught by the incoming tide.

To be honest, anyone who was there at the time should have known better. Some very lucky people that night. Could easily have been worse :-/

Where I work is really near the coast, a field that used to be the place we would walk through to get to the harbour (about a 5 minute walk) was totally covered in sea water, it was pretty freaky to see..........in the 5 years I've worked there, I have never seen that happen before......the sea was exploding against the coast it was kind of crazy to see.....oh and plenty of people were out trying to dodge the waves (are they stupid......?)

At some point I'm hoping this weather situation is going to calm down....

Newborough 'pier' has been well and truly mullered, can't say I'm sorry, all the locals hate it.

I was there when that wave came in but in the other side of the beach (stood well back); loads of screams as people ran out of the way and the force of it smashed the lifeguard hut pretty severely. Your mate must have got a bit wet?!

Funny how much you hear about this when it happens in the south and west?

The poor b*ggers along the east coast wheo were flooded out, and had their properties washed away three weeks before Christmas were quickly put to one side when Mandela died.
Neither ITV nor BBC bothered to go further than Southend....

It's a shame that, I'm a local and most folks I speak to quite like the regeneration of Llandwyn / Newborough. It was great with small kids and folks in wheelchairs / bad legs.

Possibly not the best use of that amount of money on the island but it did make it accessible for everyone. I'd quite like the plaque with all of the mountains on, it'd sit great in our garden and save me having to give the guided tour whenever someone visits us

My bay window is leaking as is my flooded garage. Looks like the roof has lifted from the wall allowing a lot of water in. Luckily everything was moved !

Well most people I know preferred Newborough when it was a tranquil, undeveloped location, rather than the tacky, overcrowded, downmarket beach resort that NRW are trying to turn it into... I'm sure the pc ***** won't like this but there were already plenty of other coastal locations where disabled people have access to the beach.
