Default Michael Schumacher "injured" in skiing accident

Breaking news and patchy details so far but apparently Michael Schumacher has been injured in a skiing accident.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/25542340

Hope he's okay.

I hope he's OK too. One of my favourite F1 drivers and contrary to what most believe from the press a great guy off the track!

Sky are reporting it as a serious head injury, mind you I am taking that with a pinch of salt given the media's thirst for blood!

And there in a nutshell is why I keep going on about the press in this country. Seems the injury is not serious after all thankfully! BBC now reporting it as not serious! Sky will doubtless catch up with reality!

Jeez, you can almost hear the disappointment in their voices!

I've just seen a report on the BBC saying he wasn't seriously injured so why report it, slow news day?

Just heard this on the radio, serious but not life threatening. Hope he's ok. Skiing must be one of the most dangerous sports out there.

Yeah, but it is great fun.
Can't be worse than horse riding though?

Yep - most of the nag riding idiots on the public highway are asking for a punch for one reason or another so I guess it could be considered a dangerous sport!

That's not good

Just watching the news, I hope he gets well again soon, but it is obviously very serious now!

Initially that was the statement made by the hospital, the British media had already decided it was serious of course, but did alter their stories after the statement.

Tonight his condition has worsened after being operated on and he is now in a coma in a critical condition according to the hospital and his family via his agent..

It's years since I dealt with a severe head injury but it could be an induced coma to deal or help with a particular aspect of the management, not necessarily one directly as a result of loss of brain function.

Modern healthcare with these things is impressive and from what I gather he has experienced state of the art care from the off (treated at scene, airlifted to hospital, top names managing). Look at how Richard Hammond was managed.

Fingers crossed he'll be okay.

If his brain is swelling due to the knock to the head that would make sense,
Thats why the did it to Hammond.

Not sure why Toady would be there, apart from as a friend. Be grateful there's not been a comment from a Mr M. Walker. The Curse of Murray is the last thing he needs...

Hopefully he'll be fine. If Stirling Moss can fall down lift shafts and survive, I'm sure Micky can too.
