Default idris elba - king of speed

Anybody else watch this (bbc2) ?? --( I just caught the last half hour). He was touring the states looking at street racers and nascar

Tomorrow, on bbc2 at 8pm, he is in Europe looking at rallying

"...Idris examines the history of the rallying Mini and gets to grips with the combination of technology and skill involved in driving at a professional level. He also discovers that the underground driving craze of drifting, which began in Japan, has become the fastest growing motorsport in Europe - a passion for skill and handling has changed the way Europeans race..."

Well worth a watch

Whoever edited it should have realised that enthusiasts don't want to spend time listening to crappy music over the sound of the engines. That last bit with him going round the NASCAR circuit was ruined by it.

Otherwise, roll on tomorrow's episode.

Never heard of him though!

Ah, right he plays Mandela

There's nothing at all coincidental in programme planning!

I enjoyed it too, but I've still never seen him in anything else.

I enjoy listening to Wire, but they're a group, not a TV programme.

It's common affliction with TV numpties, of you thing that was bad though, it was nothing compared to the appalling sound edit on the Classic TT programme on ITV4

This project programme was as much about promoting idris ,as anything to do with motors. ...

The BBC xmas content has been shameful , I'm sure they'll come back with "oh well we live in straightened times bla bla bla " . Only to the sack off their redundant executives with ridiculously large payoffs.

I remember as a teenager, a girl up the roads dad was some kind of producer in the beeb and somehow he managed to get her in on the gravy train, it wasn't like she was hugely talented either, in any direction

Started off a bit slow, I think he was talking ****e about working in a tyre bay and having a fiesta xr2, apart from that once it got going it seemed ok.

The registration of the xr2 summed up that bit for me.

Didn't see it, but must have been good if Stringer Bell was in it.

The whole thing seemed to be more about promoting some actor I've never even heard of, why would his name be in the title of the programme when he certainly isn't a household name?

He didn't really come across as having any real passion or knowledge about cars above the average man in the street and spent as much time telling us about himself as he did talking about the actual cars.

I dont think he is much of a driver either. Doesn't seem to listen. Grits his teeth and hold wheel too tight. Cutting the corner could have happened to anyone.

Thought it was ok but have to agree with others, he has no real interest in cars etc, he's only out to promote his image.

Ari Vatanen is looking quite healthy for his old age, he must be knocking on a bit now.

Definitely some editing for his driving , he didn't look that good, then the chopper cam showed him doing full on gravel sideways action ! Also on the Stock Car track he was talking away , camera looking down an empty track , then shots of the front of the car obviously from a camera car in front. Thats all right in a car show , but not for showing someone who is supposedly into cars trying different motoring disciplines , and making him look better than he is. It sounded like his only experience of being "into cars" was twatting about the streets as a teenager. . . . .just like everyone then ?

I think that youre confusing whether you have heard of him and whether he is well known. Also, whilst you may not be familiar with his name, you must be aware of his work.
