Default Best man speech tomorrow

So my speech is written and I'm pretty happy I know it and it's ok.

I've stuck to 3 minutes, which seems to be a safe time and I say all I need to.

I'm pretty confident with public speaking normally, but this one has me a little flustered ..

Any real tips ?

That's the best and worst suggestion online .. Although if everyone else gets ****faced, they'll laugh.

I've been told to add in <pause for laughter> and actually say it, if people don't.

Your post did, so I assumed your speech would too.

You could use two of them of course, but then it would be a bit so-so.

Talk slowly, nerves tend to run away at the mouth. Pausing for 2-3 seconds between stories seems like ages to you, but not to the listeners.

Best ever start to a Grooms speech...

"On behalf of my first wife and I....."

Dont worry about it - wedding guests are not a tough crowd. They are all there to have a good time and will laugh with you if the gags are even remotly funny. Even if you are a bit nervous, they will be empathetic with you. Compliment the bride, bridesmaids, slate the groom and thank the parents (assuming they have funded the day) - the rest is just entertainment.

It'll be grand! I had a drink or two before I did mine and it all went just perfect. Once you've started it just flows fine.

Good luck!!!!

Definitely recommend a drink or two (no more!) to loosen the nerves.
I did the first few lines in Italian (which I don't really speak!) as the brides family have a house there and she speaks it fluently. Went down pretty well!
Sounds like you'll breeze it but totally sympathise with the nerves thing! It's better than not caring then giving a cr4p speech!

Can always start with an ice breaker such as "It is an absolute honour to have me as best man. And I am quite happy about it also"

3 mins is a bit short in my opinion.....should be between 5 and 10.

Cheers

"I'd just like to say firstly, and I'll think you'll all agree, by saying the bride today looks like one in a million! The groom, looks like he was won in a raffle"

The best start I know is for the best man to stand up, look slowly around the "audience" and say what a charming place this is. Then say slowly "Strangely enough I was here a few weeks ago addressing the meeting of the local alcoholics anonymous group - and I must say it's nice to see so many familiar faces" Breaks the ice.

Speak slowly. Enjoy. dl

....and then when you get to how he won over the bride you can state "Everyone thinks {insert groom's name} is unromantic but he won over {insert the b1tches name here} by writing some peotry which I have kindly been given to read out.

Ahem...
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I'm **** at poetry
Show me your ****"

await for the male guests to laugh and the grandma's to die of shock

I always find that saying "it's a sad day for men today as yet another beautiful woman bites the dust" gets half the audience on your side. You can say whatever you like after that....

But as other people said here, take your time, don't rush - no ones expecting a full on comedy show and everyone will be on your side.

Good luck!!

'It's been emotional - even the cakes in tears' - was how the best man ended his speech at my mums wedding 3 years ago. Got a groan

That's excellent lol ..

I've got ..

I'll be honest, I am pretty nervous, but I've been told that speaking at a wedding is like being at a nudist beach, it's only hard for the first few minutes.

Being unaccustomed to public speaking, I am a little bit nervous, so I prepared a few lines {pause} and having snorted them in the toilets earlier, I feel pretty good right now!!!

No to alcohol.

Although I said I would have one or two beforehand, people were chucking drink at me left right and centre and I was sh*t faced by the time the speeches came.

Although I got the room laughing at points, I also teared up when I mentioned a recently deceased person who wasn't there. The room then fell silent and I was choking my words. Still cringe to this day thinking about it Had I not had had alcohol, I'm sure it would have been better.

So if you do, don't overdo it, 2 drinks max.

The best man at a wedding I went to started off by saying "this will only take a few minutes" then unravelled his notes and it went down to the floor. Gained a few early laughs!

I've had the dubious pleasure of making loads of speeches of this nature, 3 mins is too short btw. My fave opener is...

''Apologies if this speech isn't very polished or slick, I had an awful night last night and feel dreadful. I went to the pub and got pissed and then went onto a club. I was thrown out for fighting with the bouncers and then found myself in a Casino, after losing loads of money I decided to console myself by going to a lap dancing club. As a result I didn't get to bed until about 5 o'clock in the morning.

Now I know you guys must all be judging me but in my defence.... somebody had to keep the groom company''

I did this one on my wife's brothers wedding speech!

That sucks ..

3 minutes was perfect by the way by the time you add in laughing and the odd heckle it's around 5 minutes, each of us had about 5 minutes to speak and I got some really good feedback.

Once I stood up, I forgot where I was and it was like being at work the Groom was made up with it and the wedding planner asked me to introduce them into the dinning room, as I was so calm and confident in the speech.

Getting the attention of 50 noisy people was a different matter
