Default Welding, What else is required

Righty, just bought myself a welder!

Always fancied having a play with one so why not?!

I bought a weldmate multi p185, Arc, Tig, and plasma,

So ive been playing with the plasma cutter this morning, and the issue i have found is that with the welding mask even when cutting i cant see **** all, but without the mask its too bright to see where you are going either.

What is the solution?

Buy a Auto darkening Mask, a decent one so you have both hands free.

PLEASE take care not to look without mask. As a lad I was asked to do some welding and just had to get on with it with no guidance. Could see sod all through mask so had a quick look without it. Woke up with horrendous pain in eyes and was rushed to Moorfields Eye Hospital and couldn't even open my eyes let alone see anything. Very frightening indeed. Luckily not much permanent damage.

Plasma cutting doesnt need the same defense as mig/tig/arc does.

More of just a normal goggle like this as the light is nowhere near as intense.

It still gives off UV though as you say its not as intense. Personally I always used a welding shield with a lighter lens. If the OP has a box of them try them and see which one suits.

A mig helmet is not always suitable for Tig as im led to believe it dosnt react fast enough, or that was the reason i was given for shelling out a few extra quid when i wanted one for work.

a good auto mask will have variable shades and a grinding/non dark option for burning/plasma etc.

Will have to look into this! thank guys, il get the box of shades out and see what i have.

What shade do i need for each? (Arc tig and plasma)

I have been messing around with the arc welder today on some 6mm steel and it really isnt that difficult, no doubt as good as alot of people out there, but hell ive seen fully qualified welders do worse.

Not alot different to solder, braze or lead burning if i am honest!

Just need the right mask so i can get everything set up properly!

You'll need a 2 3 or a 4 for plasma cutting and any thing from a 9 to a 13 for welding.
It depends on whether you're welding using mig tig or stick and also how much juice you're using
