Default Just ordered my new Mountain Bike

Although I wont hold my breathe for a quick delivery

http://vimeo.com/santacruzbikes/solo

I did own an Orange 5 Pro and E8 Pro, but sold the 5 to my brother. Mt wifes taken my E8 and I now cant join her when hes getting fettled in the woods by the local MTB group.

So I started the research on MTB and rang 5 shops posted on various forums and the list finally came to a top 3, same tune from all the guys at each shop

Santa Cruz
Lapierre
Titus

I was initially going for the Titus El Graupo as I was advised by a well known Yorkshire MTB guy called Ed Oxley, but as they wanted cash and not 0% I didn't wana hit my savings.

So I look at Lapierre and quite like the new intelligent shock, but I thought after a few bails that would smash.

I eventually went to my brothers up in Hebden Bridde and tested his 4

My Old Orange 5 pro
Orange Blood
Titus X XC
Cove Full Sus.

the blood was like riding a sofa awesome but heavy, the 5 was the daddy, the XC bikes were very good but not for me.

So eventually decided to steer away from Orange and go Santa Cruz, as its been on my Bucket list for years.

Initially went for a Bronson, but got the new SOLO 650B in Alloy Orange with uprated Kashima shock and forks, but as of yet don't know ETA maybe October.

I didn't go Carbon as its 1100 quid more, and if I have a heavy fall it may shaft the frame at least alloy bends, and with only 2Lbs in it I thought id spend the cash on goodies.

next buys will be Head Cam, skateboard type helmet and tools

Nice bike! And that's a cracking video. Making me depressed being at my office desk and not out enjoying some trails! I'm lucky to have some great places to ride within half an hour of home. That's me inspired now. I feel a weekend blast on the bike coming on! I really want to buy a new full sus but I just can't justify it right now sadly. Soon I hope. Get some pics up when you get the bike. And for the head cam I thoroughly recommend the GoPro Hero 3. I have the black edition and it's a great bit of kit!

That looks VERY trick!

I'm not convinced by 29 or 650b sized wheels yet but they seem popular. I'm very much XC/trail as I'm a gayer on technical DH stuff (had a nasty crash a while back that really spooked me) but give a good turn of speed on most stuff, especially uphill.

Ed Oxley writes for Singletrack I think?

Just got some nice Fox forks fitted and now waiting for a nasty calf injury to heal before I can properly test it - BAD TIMING!

Enjoy that bike; it looks awesome!

yes ive been looking at the hero 3 black, how do you fix it to a helmet is it a sticky thing or is there a proper mount ?

I narrowed that down to Hero 3, Sony Action Cam or drift Ghost

Liking the drift ghost because its small and waterproof no need for outer case.

Sony picture quality and steady cam are great. there is a review online of all 6 at once....

that Santa Cruz is epic, mega bucks build. i went for the solo because i do a bit more trail, and it falls between Tallboy and Bronson.

I use a mobius action cam HD with the helmet mount - for 43 quid from china its a stunning light camera - I mainly use it as a dash cam. a lot of the RC guys use them on there planes etc

I was witness to a crash while out on my bike footage here

pick 1080p hd on these clips - youtube does kill the raw quality

car mounted outside

car inside

You seem to get very excited about tyres...!
Do you work for Maxxis?!

Sounds great the OP!

Unless I go to over-light XX spec, I can't actually upgrade any part of my bike any more! Possibly the wheels but that's it really. Sad cretin that I am. Still it's light and fun.

Keep an eye on your brakes; most Elixirs tend to need bleeding a lot; my CRs were terrible so sent them bs k and got a free upgrade to X0 brakes! They have only needed one bleed in two years.

I've just bought a similar fork to yours; it's great!

They'll soon wear out (except the shifters); I'd wait until then except I'd replace with X0 not XT. But for the front mech, definitely XTR.

have a look at the chest mount fella, i think it's by far the best place to mount a camera for mountain biking and was one of the reasons i went with gopro, as they were the only decent camera that had the chest mount

I've seen that. Looks interesting but not quite upto GoPro standards yet but not bad for a first attempt. Wonder if it sells?

what standards are these. i like the idea of case less cams and with GPS etc its a nice idea.

The Go pros deffo have it on the mount front, whats missing i find is steady shot. i think only the sony and Garmin have this..
See how it fairs when it comes out.
