Default So you think you have trouble bleeding the brakes on your car?

Try bleeding Hope brakes on a pushbike

TINY lever movement, so needs doing many times.
Tiny reservoir, so needs topped up almost after every lever stroke.

THEN, it being a closed system, you need to instal the rubber membrane on top of the fluid in the reservoir, at the same time ensuring the reservoir remains full and that you trap no air UNDER the membrane.

It's just taken me and my lad four goes......

Tell him to try it backwards, using a syringe full of brake oil onto the caliper bleed nipple.

It's the way I bleed my motorbike brakes and my own Hopes, and hasn't let me down yet

Besides, a little air in the system on Hopes is a good thing

The springiness stops you going over the bars quite so often

I'll mention that. We'll look for a large-ish syringe tomorrow.

Was it necessary to bleed them? The fluid doesn't get as hot as on automotive brakes...well maybe downhill mountain bikes might? I dunno actually.

Glad it's not just me who find bleeding bike brakes a pig of a job. I had to after having to do some maintenance work on my rear caliper. I hope I don't have to do it again anytime soon!

I find bleeding my X0s okay. It's not exactly fun but it's satisfying.

Yes, he had a leak from the banjo nut, the tubing moved and exerted enough force to unscrew it.

The bike is a trials ride, so sees a lot of rider movement.

The reverse fill is a good idea.

I swore by my XTR V brakes for many years, until I finally gave in and bought some Hope M4s earlier this year. Honestly, the difference is night and day

That is with the Hopes though, my lad's Specialized has Shimano M525s on it, and in my opinion they are only just the equal of my old Vs. until you hit mud or water of course
