You may remember sometime last week it was mentioned that Granada Media were looking for some girl racers to film for a TV programme on ITV.

I sent an e-mail to the and received a phone call today from someone at London TV asking me more questions about my driving etc etc.

The long & the short of it is that he said he'd let me know by the end of this week whether I have been selected.

Has anyone else gone in for this? If so, have you heard from them yet?

I'm not too sure I want to do it now, sounds like it's going to be a case of interviewing you about your driving and then filming you in your local area. They seem really keen on getting you to convince them and the public that women are better drivers!

How can a programme on Girl racers convince anyone that women are better drivers.

Girl Racers = better drivers

Isn't that a contradiction.

In some ways, women are programmed to be better drivers. The wiring of the brain is somehow different and, taking the average view, women can multitask and, most importantly, assess and prioritise different information better than men.

Judging approach speed and distance is something that again, taking the average view, men seem better at.

If you've seen the second programme in Clarkson's speed series this comes as no surprise. The RAF pilot testing includes a test specifically designed to test peoples prioritisation and multitasking ability, and yup, women do better than men.

Back to the topic, if this programme shows girl racers as responsible, then it's done the job. I bet everyone on the road has seen the M*X P*WER pillocks of their area driving like arseholes and, yes, they'll be 999/1000 young lads.

If they do use our 'chelle, they may just think girl racers are very, very strange but hopefully not completely mental when it comes to driving

Nick.

chiark is right about the multi tasking. I was watching a programme on Daniela Westbrook last night and she managed to light a ***, answer the phone, talk to camera while turning a corner steering with her knees. Nuff respect!!

I rang this guy aswell and after about 10 mins of asking questions like have you points on your license, do you drive really fast, whats your top speed, and have you been in trouble with the law!

Ok I think they are looking for girl racers that are probably band from driving and haven't a car ect,

But I'm still waiting for a call back

Maybe they want to rethink this programme, and not put us girlies down.

Girls dont forget to get your hair done, make sure you are looking at your best. Also make sure you got somewhee to stow your handbag, dont wont it falling on the passenger seat and your lippy ending up all over, whilst demonstrating how you qualified to take part in the programe.

I e-mailed as well - but said I don't speed in 30/40/50/60 zones so he probably doesn't want to talk to me!

Oh well - I've just got my new de-catted centre section so I'm very happy!

Just received this from a mate in Aus thougth it might humour you.

Subject: Woman Drivers

Driving to the office this morning on the M3, I looked over to my right and there was a woman in a brand new BMW doing 110 mph with her face right up to her rear view mirror putting on her eyeliner! I looked away for a couple of seconds and when I looked back she was halfway over in my lane, still working on her make-up!

It scared me so bad that I dropped my electric shaver, which knocked my toast out of my other hand.In all the confusion of trying to straighten up the car using my knees against the steering wheel, it knocked my mobile phone away from my ear which then fell into the coffee between my legs, splashed and burned Big Jim and the Twins, ruined the damn phone and disconnected an important call!

Bloody women drivers!

Be grateful you don't live in The United Arab Emirates:

"Women Drivers and the Veil
UAE : Unlike Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates does allow women to drive, so long as they keep their veils on. However this tradition is being turned to the women’s advantage in some ways. Since veiled women feel that police officers will not ask them to lift their veils, the ones without a licence often use the licence of another. Completely veiled women have a limited field of vision, and some pay so much attention to adjusting their veils that they lose control of their cars. Police have now set up female-only highway to crack down on these veiled outlaws."

Better Drivers ?
Racing Drivers ?

Saw a program that summed it up nicely, GTI Magic video I think, Girl Racer called Sam drove a Mark 1 Golf GTI to good effect, top driver, excellent car control but lost cos her fluffy teddy mascot fell off the dash and got stuck under the pedals !!!

Cant imagine that happening to a bloke somehow !

Got rung the other day as well after having already spoken to the previous producer.
Was a bit wary after the initial question they asked....how fast have you ever driven for gods sake and how many speeding tickets have you got. Sent them a further email highlighting some of these worries.....guess the rest of the email must have caught his eye.
Most people I have spoken to have told me to steer well clear, spect they are probably right....just the lure of the cameras is so strong.... :
