Time difference .....
When I used to surf in Cornwall we would always know to have finished the beach BBQ by 8pm at the end of August as it would be dark then.
I am sat on the South Coast here at 8pm and it's still very light.
Now, is Cornwall 20 minutes ahead of us? I know it's 20 minutes - but it seems to be that it's darker there 20 minutes before us on a line from the Isle of Wight - so, it's dark right now in Cornwall?

Pete,
Sun rises in the East and sets in the West so obviously the further west you go the lighter it will be for longer in the evening. If you think about it long enough it'll probably dawn on you

The further west you are,the later the sun will set. So its gets dark on the eastern side of the country earlier than in the west.
Its all because the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The Earth rotates in the direction that dictates that.
The east coast of the USA is five hours behind us because they are so far to the west.
