tattoo's - old hat now?
Just thinking, tattoo's became popular (even with females) about 25 years ago now.
Those must be looking really awful now, withered and tired.
I mean, they looked awful when new - what must they look like now?
Those mummy chavs who had tramp-stamps done 25 years ago are now in their 40's with these things showing above their ample rear ends sticking out from too tight stretched jogging bottoms.
And what about those with tats on their necks? Are they still unemployed or have they now risen to stacking shelves in their Crappy Shopper outlet on their council estate?
So, come on, who feels that their tats are so 80's? Thinking of those tribal bands which should be called sheep bands as they were simply a copy of others, many others.
I know no one here are still having them done as they are so 80's - but' are you now looking at a big mistake each morning? How are you living with such an error of judgement?

I'm in for the first full day on my half sleeve this Saturday and I can't wait. As Rig has said, modern tattoo artists have come on leaps and bounds since those rub stamp days. Google Rob Richardson, (as soon as you get as far as "rob richa" in the google searchbar he pops up top of suggestions!) that's who's doing mine... Really brings meaning to the "artist" part of tattoo artist!
It's something I know I'll never get sick off as it is a memorial piece for my grandparents.

I can't see anything attractive in a tattoo anyway and would not dream of having one myself.

My maternal and paternal late grandmothers had their husbands' names tattooed on their arms. That would have been in late 1920's, I reckon. The reason I think was that they must have had child marriages, and when the toddler bride and groom went to fun fairs as children, they could have got lost and separated. Tattoos would have been the identification marking to work out, even if found in later years that one was so-and-so's child bride. Both ladies had their own names tattooed as well on their arms so that if they didn't remember their own names, they could be identified as who they were.
Their tattoos looked a mess at their wrinkly state. We, as children, used to stretch their skin to read them, and they let us do that for our amusement. Paternal GM lost her husband to his death quite soon after having babies with him, so his tattooed name was a everlasting memory of him for her until she died in 1996.
I wouldn't have one. I like body art, and I like Indian henna on my hands and feet. I do it on myself whenever I want. It fades in a fortnight or so, and then I can draw a different design on me again.

I'll have to paint it on you, Lisa. I absolutely love painting it free hand on me and my child. I wish I can paint free hand patterns everywhere all over the place! I'll bring some henna when we meet up.

some of the art work is fantastic and to quite a lot of folk a tattoo can have a personal meaning , they've been around for 100s if not 1000s of years
So saying they are getting old hat now is slightly ridiculous

I have tattoos and I do actually think they are too common now, people must have too much disposable income I recon.
Surely tribes and the like have been tattooing each other with sticks for thousands of years so I doubt its gonna wear thin anytime soon.

i know what the OP means with the 'celtic bands'. very outdated
the recent tattooist's can do awsome work, the pic that jazzyjembreaze posted is done really well, not too keen on the pic myself, but it's done well
but some other tatt's, i wonder if some people have actually got a single brain cell in their head
