I know we pick on the Chinese on here a bit .. but reading more into the daily atrocities, it makes me question how an amazingly brilliant bunch can have such little regard for life..

They do appear to have major social issue, there was a video not that long ago about a small truck driver if I remember correctly.
He had knocked down a small boy, but decided to try to finish him off using the vehicle since he wasn't totally dead.

I can sort of get what the OP is driving at here.

China's record on human rights is appalling.

For instance despite having outlawed torture in 1996 it is still a common occurrence in its gulags/labour camps... do a bit of Googling if you want to see the full horror!

So if that is the way their government behave it's hardly a surprise when incidents like this one occur and don't create much of a stir within that country.

And of course we in the West must not complain for fear of damaging those precious trade links!
