I agree , & have friends in the offshore , comm divers field
So I know you can relate more than most
- it's just , I think "man " overstepped the boundary's
In terms of percentage of once failure to inevitable crash
Must be very nervous bouncing up-down on way out & back

I have been choppered into and out of all sorts of places and situations, have seen some fantastic displays of pilot skill and ability, possibly the most impressive was a Chinook pilot carrying out an aft-gear pinnacle landing.
A friend who is a commercial airline pilot told me that flying a helicopter is like trying to balance a marble on a flat plate of polished glass.

I have had a go at flying them and it is a bit of a trick to do until you develop a feel for it.
I have to say that I would always be concerned about the rotor, its mountings, and the mechanical drive etc. since it does not take a great deal to go wrong with any of that to spell disaster. At least aeroplanes will glide if the motive power fails.

A pal of mine was lucky enough to be trained as a pilot for the oil industry, but there were no jobs.... so they chucked him £6K and he joined the Prince of Somewhere, and ended up in Wales/SW England playing around as a trainer himself.
Later once out of the forces he chose to fly BA mid distance work, which he likened to being a coach driver....

P.S. Nige has one but he saves money by servicing it somewhere "dodgy" in the EU.... No Thanks mate !

Not so much dodgy as very much cheaper, even after stripping down, loading into a container and shipping, he saves a large sum on the periodic inspection/maintenance costs, somewhere in our communist brother's backyard....
