St Tropez
UPDATE NOW POSTED (with girlie pic )
Anyone know St Tropez well enough to recommend a smaller tavern type restaurant away from the tourist hang outs that would suit 3 young ladies staying in an apartment for a week but with limited funds!
Thanks, David
Regret apartment address not for sale ........

Some venues at the end of this article.

I've never been to S.T. but have stayed in Cannes on a business trip, that was expensive enough. but my wallet wasn't affected, I was on full expenses

Anyway we had to do tour of the riveria didn't we, drove down to St Trop one day, pretty much exactly this time year and absolutely rammed
Anyway we wondered down the quayside - but we're told to avert our eyes from the people eating lol...stepdad wasn't going to fork out for that

Yeah I know but apartment is free and with a car. And I assume there are some ordinary residents of the place who buy their food and things from a supermarket, including some good but cheap wine?
So they can drive past the Enzos and get out of town. They just need an idea for a non-tourist bar where they can get a taste of French life.
Who is that?
David

My Sister lived down there when she was head of indoors on the superyachts, hired a flat on coast Beaulieu sur mer and Menton, just so she didn't have live aboard.
All bit further up coast though,Golfe Jaun mostly

I stay in the area fairly regularly, but unfortunately nowhere is cheap. Also it's a favourite holiday destination for many French people so more or less everywhere is quite 'touristy' but there's a good community of UK ex-pats. Some nice restaurants in La Croix Valmer & Grimaud and I usually stay in Cavalaire Sur Mer (about 20 mins drive from St. Tropez) Even the restaurants at the side of the harbour there are quite pricey compared to the UK though.
If funds are limited they'd be better off buying food from the supermarkets and doing their own cooking rather than eating out.

I know the area fairly well and I would suggest going to St Raphael.
A lot of choice and a bit cheaper than StT.
That said, in peak season, in that area - there is no such thing as cheap!

our friends who live in NICE-France took us there the other year.
TBH I was expecting a bit bigger area ... it's like a little fishing village lol
He took us to a Pizzeria place just of the main drag.. not overly expensive at all.
pix taken in May 2006 when we went
great beaches round and about the area
how young was I then!!! lol

We usually summer at Muse which is on Route des Marres. Probably a little out of your price range to stay there but if you are pleasing on the eye you may find someone to feed and water you. Before they smash your back doors in. :-). Hope that helps

Well the girls are back safe and sound and it was interesting to hear if funds ran out
Ryanair was around £140 to Toulon where they got a good hire car deal. They actually stayed at a place called Port Grimaud which was just up the coast. It was basically a man-made harbour where you got around by boat. Also a boat to St Tropez if needed.
The girls basically just chilled out on a nice, but very hot, beach and got food from a local supermarket. A tad more expensive than UK.
The trips to St Tropez itself were interesting but mostly it was a place to show off how wealthy you were with some enormous gin palace yachts parked up, one having a gold plated hull and the biggest being the disgustingly named "Our Toy". That would be nice for a street artist to paint "Ostentatious - Moi? on the side.
All in all a great relaxing holiday and my daughter spent around E150 excluding the flight which I thought was pretty good.
Thanks for all (well most) comments. David

PS. "Our Toy" is for sale for a snip at $12m if you want to look like a prat
