Skylon / Sabre engine
A bit under the radar I thought, but in the last couple of weeks there have been some developments in the Skylon/Sabre project. They have been awarded £60m over the next few years to take the design forward with possibility of flight in 2020. The 10 minute interview is also particularly interesting in this link

Now ESA has chipped in a further 1m euros as well to fund a feasibility study

A quiet (in news terms) but hugely interesting bit of British engineering takes another step forwards. I wish them every success

Looks very interesting and I hope they can make it work satisfactorily.
Is Skylon the name of the firm making it? The Skylon used to be a futuristic vertical metal tower at the Festival of Britain!

No I think its the name of the proposed aircraft that the sabre engines will be fitted to. Its the follow up to the HOTOL project of the 90s that turned out to have some aerodynamic issues and got redesigned as Skylon

it's quite close to a combination of Cylon (BSG) and Skynet (Terminator) - should we be worried about skylon engined drones?
