Surprised this has not got a mention yet. I suspect this is still only the tip of the iceberg

Default The envy of the world....

Thing is, what happens when you apply the opposite test? In this case, what would be the reaction if private "for profit" hospitals had killed 13000 people needlessly? It would be worse than the outcry over "bankers" I think, people are actually dying...

Can't see it happening though, they'll be "lessons learnt", complaints about targets and some deckchair reshuffling, and the socialist medicine edifice will rumble on. All the international evidence has been telling us the NHS kills more people than healthcare systems in other G8 countries (and others such as Singapore). The only difference is the organisational structure, health insurance based models (such as France) have better outcomes. Its time to abolish the NHS before it kill you...

Funny you should mention this , my grandad died at one of these said hospitals .

After reading this I'm not sure where we stand legally as we had to make several complaints about missed and wrong tablets given, attitude , left 30 minutes in his own ****.

I have not read the report, I doubt many people actually have, and virtually no one on here

But when you actually listen to the report writers discuss the contents and findings (i.e. go to the primary source, not the sensationalist reporting) the main issue within these hospitals is a simple case of overworked clinical staff, leading to an inevitable drop of moral and corresponding clinical performance etc

Not really rocket science

I suspect the driver behind the under resourcing (clinical staff) is the obsession of the managerial staff to hit personal and departmental KPI’s.

These KPI’s will be financial in nature, not clinical

What you say suggests to me two possible views.
Throw more money at it, or
You can't polish a turd.
Or both

Trouble is Gordon Brown tried the "throw more money at it" approach, and that didn't work, productivity dropped even further....

I know several people who have done extremely well from the Gordon Brown approach.

I think it varies according to which part of the country you are in.

The hospital staff here in the South West do a very good job and I think it stems from the general attitude towards other people which you see in the South West.
