Yep, that's foreign ownership for you. Money that should either,
1. Be used to lower bills
2. Reinvested
3. Stay in this country.

Not to mention that the payout to the parent company, which if distributed to shareholders as you imply, will benefit pension funds.
Scottish Power said it invested almost £1bn in its UK assets last year creating thousands of new jobs and said its profits were boosted by restructuring, taking on more customers and the bad winter weather.

On a turnover of around 800 billion what's so wrong with that. They created thousands of jobs, paid millons in tax and invested a billion on infrastructure. A good result i would say.

Good result like earning 800quid and saying to your boss have a pound back and reinvest it. The jobs created are the second one you will need to pay your power bills. Our Maggie done good, selling off the family silver.

When Powergen was created (a British company then) as part of the privatization of electricity, it went on to become one of the most commercially efficient power generators in the world, fixed costs went down and productivity went by 150%. It also invested £1.1bn to build much cleaner and more efficient power stations. We no longer experience the frequent power cuts of the seventies and with privatization it brought in competition. We currently have over 30 suppliers so you can pick and choose your supplier and tariff that suits your needs, go to uswitch for example to see who can supply you energy cheaper.
