Knighthoods...
Now devalued to the point of irrelevance, if, that is, winning a game of tennis or a bicycle race is sufficient to deserve one.
Cameron is proving to be even more of a w*nker than B-liar.
Even the tennis player himself said he didn't think it was worth that.
I'd better have one too, as I fixed someone's toilet this morning.

Cameron is a laughing stock to be frank. Why doesn't he get on with doing some of the important things he keeps sayng he is going to do like implemneting Leveson like he promised!!!!

Possibly Cameron is keen to make Murray as 'British' as possible by bestowing a British honour, prior to the Scottish referendum, who knows!
Regardless, any titles should be made after his career, not while he's still playing. Seems a bit knee-jerk to do so straight after he wins Wimbledon, it needs to be a reflection of his whole career which is far from over, not just this one tournament.

People shouldn't get a knighthood for one event. Maybe when he is 50 and won several games then yes.
A knighthood is an honour. Earned effortlessly but by working hard throughout your life.
If he gets one then I want one for flushing my last turd rather then saving water and leaving it for the world to see.

Chris Hoy deserves his - he's been winning for years.
A lot of sports people also work tirelessly for charities, like Redgrave, so the awards aren't just for sporting achievements.
I have an 80 year old customer who for the past 40 years has raised £6m for NSPCC, all unpaid, and it took over her life.
It took 35 years for her achievements to be recognised and to be 'given' an MBE.
These are the people that should be getting them (I know they do, we just don't hear about them).

If you're into motorbike racing, John McGuinness really ought to have been honoured by now for his 20 TT wins. He risks his life every time he goes out on the bike and has been at the top of his game for over 15 years, but seems to be constantly overlooked come the honours.

Well I disagree, he's the first Brit to win OUR biggest sporting event and the worlds most prestigious tennis tournament in 77 years.
Personally I think he should be honoured it's a massive achievement which no one else has managed to achieve in most of our life times and indeed our grand parents life times.
Fair play to the lad, they should make him the King of Scotland.
Far too many haters on here.

These honours are pretty pointless IMO, so handing them out *****-nilly to please the masses makes perfect sense.

I agree that he's done it for himself, but it does take a great deal of dedication and and single mindedness to achieve what he has, with the total lack of decent role models the bestowing of an honour like this at least shows others who may follow in his footsteps that there is more to be gained than pounds, shillings and pence.
I'm again not sure of the rights and wrongs of it, but an achievement of this magnitude certainly warrants an equally high award, whether it's the correct award is another matter, better than making him a don of oxford, I suppose they could have made him a freeman of the city of london and given him the key, which would have been hilarious considering his lineage.

Shouting about the fact that he reckons Murray deserves a knighthood as soon as the match result was known is the action of a right plonker!
That is the sort of thing that should be considered after the dust has settled especially by someone in his position.
